Hi everyone just looking for advice.

I have a son whos just turned 9 months.

Hes been swaddled since birth and slept mostly through the night with odd night waking for 1 feed. However my problems began last week when we decided to go cold turkey taking swaddle away just exactly like i done with my other 2 sons so loved flipping over and sleeping on tummy.

My 9 month old hates having his arms out and when i feed him he sleeps 30 mins on his back then once he rolls over there's hell to pay. I try rolling him back over and patting his tummy but he immediately flips to tummy and cant even open his eyes hes that tired that you think ahh why dont you just sleep lol.

During the week of no swaddle hes had a couplw good days when he slept 2 hours on tummy but somehow hes getting worse.

Any suggestions or advice.

If he's rolling, he can't be swaddled and it's dangerous to continue to do som you probably know this. He is far too old to carry on with it.

And 8-10 mo is notorious time for development playing havoc with sleep.

Yeah i know about it being dangerous hence why ive stopped. Just looking to see if there's any advice moving forward.

well someone will be along to suggest sleep training most likely. But 'd suggest having a look at Lyndsey Hookway on Instagram or her website for more respectful ways to help your baby's sleep

Why are you rolling him back, just let him sleep on his tummy?!

Have I misunderstood? Apologies if so

I roll him back on his back because he is screaming the house down as he doesn't settle on his front for some reason.

This is all new to me as my older 2 boys made the transition no problem. I think ill have to grit my teeth and just deal with the crying and go in to settle him.

Was just on here incase anyone else had similar issue or advice to stop my ears bleeding and get a peaceful sleep.

Try a sleeping bag.

Theyre great. Dd has a few. And I used them with DS.

You can even get sleeping bags with holes for their feet so they can regulate their temperature better.

Give them a go?

Hes in a grow bag that has buttons over his shoulders. I think he just likes the feel of being wrapped up. Ill just have to plod along and keep trying. Big change for him

I used a flat sheet over the sleeping bag tucked in firmly on either side under the mattress so they felt secure.

Try the ergo cocoon ones... they're quite stretchy and when DD was a newborn she loved it. Very close to swaddling. Not as loose as a sleeping bag.

DS loved a swaddle. We used to feed him until he was sleepy then put him in his cot In his sleeping bag and hold his arms down until he went to sleep. Sounds a bit weird but was gentle and worked!

Its strange as i feed him, lay him down on his back. Within 30 mins he wakes, rolls over onto tummy, thrashing hid arms and head about until i come see him.

I think ill have to try gentle controlled crying more bur again other issue is you dont want him to wake his 2 older brothers 6years and 3 years.

Did you all use controlled crying in these ciecumstances. Is it too young i dunno??

I used control crying on my 9 month old a few weeks ago and it was the best thing I did

Did you just go in pat on tummy etc then leave for 2 mins and go back into until they settle.

Ahhh the non swaddle saga continues.

All day ive fed him, put him in his sleeping bag with arms free. Hes asleep on his back and exactly 30 mins after sleeping he rolls over onto tummy and wont settle no matter what i do.

Im so drained today.

Sympathy to you. I’m right there but my baby is only 3.5 months old and still has his Moro reflex Sad it’s making sleep a total nightmare. He stated rolling so forced to unswaddle really early. He rolls onto his belly, he cries, flipping him back doesn’t help. Smack bang in the middle of the 4 month sleep regression too. Nights are chaos.

His older brother did this too and I just stuck him in a sleep bag and toughed it out for a few weeks until he learned to roll properly both way and enjoyed sleeping on his tummy. I’m just hoping this one does the same but I feel dazed, I’m that tired. No solutions I’m afraid, just solidarity!

Have you tried holding his arms whilst laying on his tummy? Just wondering if it would help him feel more secure sleeping on his tummy?

My baby did this. Roll over after 30 mins and cry as he was freaked out on his front. Been a month of this and it is getting better by me teaching him when he is awake that it is OK to put his head down when he is on tummy. He is better now and can roll over and get comfy on his front. Hope it improves for you!

We had to wean from swaddle, first just one arm out and then two. It doesn’t happen overnight he would wake himself up hitting his face with his free arm but we did get there.
