Bedtime battles

I can't complain, I have a good sleeper. But I'm struggling with bedtime for my DS2.

Daytime routine as follows:

7.30 - I wake same time every day
Very short awake time
8.15 back down and can sleep for up to 2 hours

Mid morning nap - sometimes a battle, sleeps around 40 mins

Afternoon nap in the pushchair for an hour or two

Final nap 30 mins between 5 and 5.45

Bedtime battle commence.

Sometimes I can get him down in 30 mins, sometimes it's takes an hour. But then more often than not we get another wake after 40 mins.

Any advice or experience?

How old is he? Is he a newborn baby or older baby?

What time are you putting him to sleep on a night time?

Usually start trying for bed at about 7pm.

@FippertyGibbett sorry if I wasn't clear! I was wondering if anyone had experience of stopping the wake that happens 20-40 minutes after you've finally settled them to bed. After up to an hours work getting them down, it is a bit disheartening to start it all again almost straight away.

Have you tried putting him down at 8pm ?
7pm isn’t long after his 5pm nap.

No, I always panic as soon as I start seeing yawns and go up. So maybe I'll start a bit later on and see if it helps.

My first self settled for bed from very little (I know so lucky) so all this rocking a shushing is a bit new for me.

Totally agree you either need a later bedtime or you need to cut out or move that last nap. Sounds like your little one isn't tired enough for sleep. We often concentrate too much on being overtired and don't realise that under tiredness also contributes to bad sleep.
