Sleep

Help me tweak my baby's day for better sleep?

He's ten months old. I also have a two year old to consider.

7am - wake. Breastfeed
7.45am - breakfast
10am - breastfeed. May fall asleep at boob but wakes if I put sleeping bag on.
10.30am - nap. Wakes naturally after at least 45 minutes.
11.30am - lunch (is at this time to coincide with my two year old's lunch time at nursery, where she is two days a week)
(12.30pm - the two year old naps, again to coincide with nursery timing)
1pm - breastfeed
2.30pm - nap. Like the morning one.
4pm - breastfeed
6pm - dinner. We all eat the same things and cooking once a night is plenty! What with work and older children this time is pretty much non negotiable.
7pm - breastfeed when ready for bed. Usually falls asleep on breast, transferred straight to cot. Sleeps in cot next to my bed. Most common wake time is approx half one. I'll just put white noise on and go back to sleep as will he. If I feed him now he'll wake at half five ish. He'll then wake again at any time from half two to half three at which point I'll feed him in my bed then put him back in his when done. He'll then wake again at any time from 6.15. I mostly ignore him and put the white noise on again. Might go say shh to him and lay him back down once or twice makes no difference. He gets quite upset thought he'd get over it in a day or two but no such luck.

He eats well when he likes something. Varies from a few bites to a small bowl. Mix of spoon feeding and hand-held stuff depending on what's on the menu.

Went to this schedule over Xmas so due back at classes and daytime activities soon so eek to fitting those in (we go for morning things).

Sorry that's long! Thanks

Are you saying your 10 month old wakes twice a night for a breast feed and this is what you want to improve?

He only gets one feed in the night.

I'd like him to sleep seven till seven ideally, but will for now be ok with one feed halfway through the night.
So I'd really like him to stop this half one waking, and also just sleep through till seven!

Wow I could of only dreamed of that

My 2 year was still waking 6-9 times a night until 20 months

There's nothing you can do it just happens naturally I'm afraid

I’m not sure there’s a great deal you can do - he’ll sleep through when he’s ready! My 9 month old (4th child, all have had a similar routine) has this routine:
7am ish wake up
7.30 breakfast
9.30 ish nap - no longer than 45 mins
10 ish milk from a beaker
12ish lunch
1.30-3 nap
3 breastfeed
5 dinner
6.15 bedtime

She normally sleeps 6.15pm to anywhere between 4.30 and 5.30am for a feed and then goes back to sleep until 7.

I’d highly recommended moving him to his own room as you may be disturbing him at that time without realising it?

Is he tired enough? Mine definitely sleep better at night when we’ve had a busy day!

Wow @herechickchickchickchick that sounds tough.
Personally though I need to wake up and feel alive soon, going back to work in two months it'll be a disaster if I don't I'll likely fall out with my manager and not speak to anyone. We need the money else I'd suck it up and be a zombiefied sahm for a while longer.

@Matilda1981 thank you yes moving him to his own room is probably the next step, though it'll take some juggling and whole house rearranging! Getting out to eg baby gym doesn't seem to make a difference but will keep an eye on it

You can manage it, I went back to work full time after nine months, it's hard but I tried everything under the sun and it didn't work.

Babies will sleep better when they are ready

I think he’s doing brilliantly for his age! Two months is a long time until you go back to work, he may well improve by then.

My 21-month old wakes once for a breastfeed at midnight, after which we co-sleep. It means I don’t get out of bed and that’s made a big difference to my mood and mental health.
