Sleep

4 month old cold - will now only nap in our arms

Hello
My 4 month has her first cold and has had quite a bad cough which has been affecting her daytime naps as she was waking up as soon as she was put down when napping, so we went to letting her nap on us so we could ensure she was at least getting some daytime sleep.
Now 2 weeks later her cough is getting a bit better but she will not go down in her crib now for daytime naps !!
How do I get her to go back to sleeping in her bed?

Awww she's so little I would just cuddle her for now. This time goes so quickly

We had this when baby got croup.

You can hold her for naps if you want to - she will go into a bed again in her own time.

However, if this isn’t something you want to do, I’m happy to share what we did (albeit it at 9 months so quite a lot older!)

Cuddle baby to sleep and lie her down next to you on the bed, snuggled against your leg. Do this for a few days/a week. Then just her legs touching yours. Then feet. Then nothing. Obviously staying with her throughout the nap.!

Then pop her in the cot. I would sit with her for the first few goes in case she stirs. :)

We found that Ollie the Owl helped - i stop singing just as he’s about to fall asleep and turn it on so if he stirs, it settles him.

It is worth noting that your little one is at an age where they stop being happy to be put down to sleep in general so you may be better off waiting a couple of months before you try.

Try daytime naps in something that moves, like a pram or bouncy chair.

Sorry I'm late replying but thanks for this help. She's still fighting going down for naps so I'm guessing maybe it is that age thing. I just worry I'm making a rod for my own back and I'd happily co sleep until she was older but I worry she'll never leave our room lol.
Relatives don't help like MIL who always say "you spoil her too much" when I hold her to sleep for naps 🙄
