Would you introduce a dummy or no?

Please be kind! I'm just a tired mummy looking for advice!

My baby is 6 months old and currently wakes up 3/4 times a night. She is fully breastfed, and does not nap after 2pm, bedtime at 8. Sometimes when she wakes during the night she needs only a few suckles on the boob before being settles enough and go back to sleep? Should I think about giving her a dummy for the nighttime? Or do I keep getting her out and feeding in the night? She used to sleep all night when we were co sleeping but I have been putting her to sleep in the cot for the last two months and she is constantly waking between 3-4 times a night..

If you can get her to take one this late i would. The dummy was a lifesaver for me, we just phased it out from about 18 months and got rid of entirely at 2years old easily using dummy fairy.

I'm in exactly the same position. My son just won't take a dummy though, we keep trying. It would make it so much easier over night if he took one.. Glad it's not just me in this position.

If you're only up with her for a short period and she is settling easily I would just carry on. You run the risk of having to get up every time the dummy falls out. My son just wouldn't accept a dummy as a newborn so we stopped trying. He's one now and there have been times in the past when he's been unsettled in the night that I've wondered about trying one but then I think we'll we've got this far without so I'd rather not introduce something that we'd end up having to wean him off if he took to it.

100%. I introduced a dummy to my ebf 6 month old and I'm so so so glad we did. I was very anti dummy in the beginning but my boobs and my lack of sleep couldn't take it anymore. She only has it at bedtimes and it helps her sleep still. She's now 18m and I'm in no rush to get rid as it's a big comfort to her. We started off with the Tommee tippee breast like soothers and they were great because the shape allowed me to put it over my nipple while I was trying to first give it to her. Go for it! I hope it works for you x

I did and really wish I hadn’t. He woke up much more often every time the dummy fell out and he couldn’t find it, I was up every hour or more putting it back in!

Giving my DC a dummy was the best thing I've ever done. She sleeps so much better with it.
Maybe I'm lucky that she doesn't cry when it falls out at night though?

No, they are not a great idea, lots of reasons not to including speech delay and the problems some have getting rid of them later.

Can the cot go next to your bed or something if she's not happy in her own room?

It is early to stop night feeding imo.

inquietant dummies don't cause speech delay.

If you child has a dummy in 24/7 then it may not help speech, but that isn't what OP is asking. After about 6 months my dd only had hers for nap time, and she was a very early talker.

She is still in my room next to my bed, I just don't know about how to her to settle by herself during the night. I don't mind getting up and feeding her, but she isn't looking for a feed. She's looking for me..

BUT make sure you clip it to them. Takes them a few nights to figure out they can grab it. Penny doesn't drop straight away. But after they twig, it's a lifesaver.

Don't worry about getting rid of them later. Both of mine were dummy addicts but both had dropped them by 4 so no harm. People can be a bit hysterical about them!

I agree with the clipping. They pretty soon work out how to retrieve it if it falls out.

Yeah if you don't use a clip, then you're literally replacing one ball ache (them using you as a dummy) for another (you needing to find the dummy for them).
