What do you do when one year old wakes in night?

My DS is now a year old. Very good eater, wakes up 2 if not 3 times a night still though 😴
When I go to him, I never know the right thing to do. I would like to night wean but find nearly every time I go in I’m feeding (breastfeeding) him back off to sleep.
I would like for both of us to achieve better quality sleep as he always seems tired in the morning- HELP X

She sleeps in our room so either feed and put her back in the cot or bring her into our bed. Throw in putting her on the potty too.
She's 2 now but we've been doing this for ages.

I’d definitely night wean. I did that at 7 months old and then 5 months with dc2. They really don’t need it at that age.

When you’ve taken food off the menu I tend to go in, check they’re okay, quick cuddle if needed then back in bed. I don’t respond quickly either, give a really good chance to settle themselves and if they’re happy, leave them to it. I tend to find that you can hear by the cry if they’re poorly or teething etc

Turn his mobile on and pass him his comforter

Job done

Give him a hug if he needs one until he calms then put him back in his cot where he promptly falls asleep. It doesn't happen often though

I'd normally give her a cuddle in the chair until she went drowsy again then put her back in her cot and tuck her back in.

If you don't want to feed, you probably need to go cold turkey, but you'l probably need your partner to help

Pray to any god listening for her to go back to sleep.

I feed back to sleep. Breastfeeding at night at age one is completely normal but if it isn't working for you then I'd get your DH to handle the night wakings for a week Smile

Help her latch and then go back to sleep.

Send DH through as then it's clear BF is off the menu.

I used to get a boob out and go back to sleep. Nightweaned at two and he slept through, then just fed morning and night mostly.

My son often settles himself, so if I go straight in it would wake him up properly. If I hang fire for a couple of minute I can see if he's settling himself.

Failing that, bottle of milk (he was weaned from BF at 5 months) and a cuddle back to sleep.

He doesn't tend to wake up, but the times he does he can be really quite upset for a while and needs a lonnnnnng cuddle. I keep the lights off, I was advised not to talk to him but I like to talk to him and reassure him

Sit/lie with him for a few minutes until he falls back to sleep

Whatever it takes, try seeing if he will settle (lately that doesn't work much), if not, pat him/rub his back. If that fails, bottle of cow's milk.

He is nearly 2 as well! 21 months.

Breastfeed back to sleep here too! If I have already fed her during the night I start with a cuddle and sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. I keep talking about night weaning but have yet to build up the courage to do it! Although we still have night wake ups I'm not sure I want to risk night weaning her and her then still waking up and not going back to sleep after a quick feed just yet!

Ignore him. As soon as mine reach one, I leave them during the night. Unless they sound distressed from a bad dream.

Wow, overwhelmed with all your responses thank you so much.
Awake every 3 hours last night but only fed once. Is there a regression at 12 Months? X

I think so, then 18 months and 2 years

And my 2 year old is still up every 2-3 hours unless She's in bed with me
