Baby monitors

I can't find any recent threads on this and was just after general opinions really.. at what age do you stop taking a baby monitor to bed with you?

DD is nearly 1 and I know I have a worse night sleep because the monitor is right next to me but I just can't seem to bring myself to turn it off?!

DH thinks we should carry on using it when we are downstairs and DD is sleeping upstairs, but when we are upstairs as well we don't need it... We could hear her from our room if she really cried but I usually like to get to her before she reaches that stage!!

Am I being ridiculous?!

We stopped using it for DD when she was 3 and a bit because we needed it for DS 😬

DS is 15 months; no intention of stopping it anytime soon despite the fact that we live in a flat and his door is about 1m from our door. I generally use it to check whether he's actually awake/standing up yelling or just being noisy in his sleep and therefore I can ignore. I'd be up and down otherwise

Oh Confused. It's never occurred to me to have the monitor with me upstairs. DS has been in his own room since 1. He's across the landing and we'd hear him cry. We look in on him just before we go to bed. Oops

Somewhere between 1 and 3 months. I would usually switch it off in the middle of the night anyway as it would keep waking me up with every sniff and cough!
Our rooms are right next to each other so really bit needed at night! I found monitors handy for the day naps when I might go out to the garden or be other end of the house.

Seems like there's no right or wrong then, thanks guys.. I might start by turning the volume low and wean myself off that way Confused it would be nice to not get woken up by every cough / snuffle!!
