5 month old wakes super early to poo...help!

Hi,

My 5 month old is a great sleeper but he wakes up between 4&6am every day to do a poo and nothing I do changes that. He goes to bed at 7pm every night, whatever we do we can't change that as he's super ready for sleep by that point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! x

I forgot to mention we end up co-sleeping with him afterwards just so we can get another hour or so sleep.

There is nothing you can do to change when a baby poos apart from withholding milk which would be incredibly wrong. Nothing lasts long and I bet he stops when on solids for a few months

You've mentioned 'nothing I do changes that' what gave you tried?!

@1940s haha ok, I did sound a bit dramatic there but I've tried cycling his legs through the day and baby massage to try and help move things along through the day.

My DS use to do that, really not much you can do. It did stop after a couple of months. The main thing to remember with all these things is ‘it shall past’ xxx

It will totally change when you start weaning I'm sure. In the meantime, I don't think you can change the time a baby (or a person!) needs a poo.

My little girl did this for a few weeks. Drove me mad! I was never sure if she woke to poo or did a poo then would wake. I would change her and then she would want milk so I would treat like night time. Soon settled on its own but much better when I moved her to her own room probably because I didn’t hear her poo haha!

@LouK87 when did you move your LO to their own room? We're considering moving him this week, he'll be 23 weeks on Friday. I know we're waking him up when we move in bed and vice versa, also he's a big baby so doesn't really fit in his bedside crib anymore.

@Hodge85 I moved my little one into her own room around 22-23 weeks and straight into her cot and it was the best thing I did. She was in a Moses basket til then and had little room and once in her cot could wriggle and stretch out! We all slept better for it as she was so noisy too. I started putting her in there for naps during the day for a bit then transferred at night. It wasn’t a problem for me thankfully. I know the guidance states 6 months but I just felt she was ready and I was ready. She wasn’t far off the 6 month mark!

@LouK87 that's exactly how we feel too! I know guidance is 6 months but he's been napping on his own for the past 10 or so weeks plus he'll just be in the next room. I'm going to start napping him in there this week and go from there. How old is your little one now?

@Hodge85 my little girl is 28 weeks so just over 6 months. I think I was more worried moving her than she was haha! I think it helps her settle too as I’m not jumping or reacting to every little noise so she can settle herself better too
