Sleep

7 week old... is this normal?

Hi, first post!
7 week old goes to sleep about 8pm - and wakes for feed at 11.30pm. Then 2.30am, then 4.30.... and then he grunts and is so unsettled until I bring him on my chest. It’s like he has farts he can’t get out!
So is the waking ‘normal’ for his age.
I stupidly bought a sleep programme and they are saying at 7 weeks he shouldn’t be waking this much for food. Must be his nap schedule...(he doesn’t have one yet!)
Also could the grunting and fart issues be to do with formula... I mix feed but have heard hipp organic is good?
Thanks in advance!

Baby hasn't read the sleep programme. Its completely normal. Mine is 5 months old and still feeds 3 times a night.

They have to learn how to poop and fart, which muscles to use - it doesn't come naturally. They clench instead of releasing basically until they learn the difference - it seems like they're struggling but with both of mine I found that 12-15 weeks they kind of figured it out Smile

The grunting has been normal for my 2, both breastfed so I don't think it's always formula related. It's very annoying though!

Chuck the sleeping programme. Revisit it at 6 months. Seriously - I loathed them

Mine did a lot of grunting i. The early weeks.
And a lot of feeding.

Now at 5 months bed at 8, feeds at 11:30/2/4:30/6:30. No matter what I do.

Sleep training at 7 weeks is ridiculous, try 7 months!

Stay strong you'll get through it or used to it x

Mine was like this til 9-10 weeks and exclusively breastfed.

Revisit the sleep program in the future (if you want) but I don't rate them too much x

Totally and utterly normal. I can only assume that your sleep program was written by an escaped mental patient.

The first three months of my baby’s life were like sleeping next to a farmyard. Honestly, he used to honk like a goose and fart so violently I was worried he would take off

That's a lot more than either of mine slept at that age (or the year afterwards...).
