Disappearing chair method, success stories?

Just as the title says really.

I'm planning this approach with my 9mo tonight.

Any success stories to share? How long did it take to be effective?

We did it. Took 3 nights until he slept through. First night was horrendous though. Going in pretty much every hour.

Thank you @anonymouse! 3 nights sounds brilliant. I'm under no illusion tonight will be tough. But I'm at the end of my tether and really don't want to go down the controlled crying route. I know there will be lots of tears today, but at least I can be there to console him.

How old was your LO when you did this?

He was 10 months so very similar to your LO. Yep, definitely be prepared for tears the first night. My DH and I felt awful but it was the kindest way as like you we didn't want controlled crying. Naps took a little longer, a week iirc.

@bumblebumblebumblebee sounds like a magic trick doesn't it!

The concept is that you place a chair by the LO's cot and reassure them verbally and with some touch to go to sleep by themselves, and stay by their side until they do so.
The thought is that after 3-4 nights, you gradually move the chair further away. And then further away again after a few more nights. Until eventually you can move the chair by the door, then outside of the door and so on.

I had a chair ready by the cot tonight. I read my little one a book, gave him a little cuddle and then put him down in his cot, expecting him to protest and cry hysterically as he has been doing recently. But instead, he rolled over and went to sleep. I'm SO CONFUSED!
And I was so ready to sit by his cot for as long as it took tonight.

I'm expecting him to wake fairly soon so I'm sure I'll be on that chair soon.
