Hi all

We are struggling with nap time for my little girl she wakes at 9am and wants to nap at 4pm when we let this happen bed time will be pushing 10:30 if not later!! I think the problem maybe that she's not awake long emough for a nap to take place in the early afternoon!

I have seen online that some people have said not to put her down for a nap for a few days bedtime can then happen earlier she will wake a bit earlier and be ready for an early afternoon nap?

I have thought about dropping the nap but she gets so tired late afternoon any advice is very much appreciate!

Xx

11h overnight sleep is correct for this age, anything in the range 10h-12h would be normal.

So a 9am bedtimes means you should be expecting a 10pm bedtime and 10.30pm wouldn't be unreasonable. You can't have it both ways and expect a later morning and also an early night.

For a 9am-10pm day I would expect a nap around 4pm.

Your baby isn't ready to drop the nap. If you want an earlier nap (and bedtime) start your day at 6.30am or 7am instead.

Ahh I'm not asking for it both ways maybe you misunderstood my post! I was asking for some advice on a way to bring about an earlier wake up time naturally! Hence my question on has anyone tried the method where you skip the nap for a few day's in order to bring on an earlier wake up time, earlier nap time and earlier bed time .

But thank you for your response

Maybe try and wake DC up 30 min earlier and then after a couple of days another 30min earlier etc.

Needs to be getting up much earlier. 6:30 or 7. Definitely fixed our sleep schedule.

I think nap times can be all over the place at this age. I have a 22 month old too. She is either not able to nap at all in the day, or else she has 15mins, or 1 hour or 2 hour naps!!! :/

What is different to your DD is that her night time sleeping is really consistent - 6.30pm-7am/7.30am..

So I'm not sure how to help you- Sorry OP. :/

Does your DD definitely need to nap in the afternoon?? Could she push on without one to 6ish bedtime??

Basically, you need a hard reset of some description (a toddler "Control Alt Delete") so that she achieves a moderately earlier bed time one night, in order to wake up moderately earlier the following day etc.. .

I'd just get her up earlier and then the whole day should shift forward. It'll be horrible for a few days but then should settle down a bit.

Thanks everyone! We did a 7am get up this morning (well about twenty past once I was able to get my LG up lol!) and just done lunch so I am going to try for a 1pm bed time and wake no later than 3pm for hopefully a 7:30 bed time tonight !!

Wish me luck!!
