Hi all,
My baby is soon 8 months old. He has never been a great sleeper since he was born he has slept a couple of nights the whole night not to many. He then went thorough a stage where he slept from 10 to maybe 5am then soothed back to sleep until 8am. He has been of his night feeds since about 4 or 5 months. His bedtime now is usually 930 and he gets a bottle before bed as that's the way his routine works. But his sleeping has got worse he will sleep from 9/9.30 and stir in his cot with his eyes closed and make noises at around 11 and then wake again around 1am and he will not fall asleep again in his cot he has to be put in his buggy and pushed to sleep and he has to stay in this the rest of the night or he will not sleep and I really hate this as I want him to sleep in his cot but I am exhausted and he even stirs in his buggy a couple or times a night and I have to push him back to sleep. He is such a restless sleeper and must be exhausted himself he is almost 8 months old and I thought he would be a better sleeper by now, is the bottle before bedtime a possible cause of this ? I am just exhausted and don't know what to do anymore

What are his naps like? Have you tried different bedtimes?

I'd hate the buggy sleep too - have you tried cosleeping? My DD was regularly in bed with me from the early hours because at least I got some sleep that way.

This sounds typical of the 8 month sleep regression - have a read. It should hopefully improve with time.

I would be trying to gradually bring that bedtime way forward to 7 or 7.30 and work hard on getting a decent nap at lunch time (that could reasonably be in the buggy). If he’s not napping well and has a late bed time he may be over tired which can lead to frequent wakes and won’t be helping. I wouldn’t stop the bottle before bed as then he may wake up hungry. This regression is due to a period of rapid growth and development, sometimes they are more hungry during this time.

Thanks everyone he doesn't nap well either much during the day no matter how hard I try he will sleep no more than 2 hours throughout a day, I dont mean to take his bottle away before bedtime i would probably bring the bottle forward a half hour before he goes to sleep

I would try a sidecar cot.

This is just a normal cot at the side of your bed, but with one side removed. It means you can cuddle up to baby (in the cot, but with you in your bed) to settle if it's needed. But importantly, you can extract yourself back into your bed once baby is settled.

This is a gentle way to get baby used to sleeping independantly in the cot, all night.
