Baby sleeping on side

Hi, FTM here

I'm sure I'm just being super anxious as we all have it drilled into us that babies should sleep on their back.

My 6.5 month old the last week or so has taken to sleeping on his side or tummy. He can roll both ways easily (has been for well over a month). I often find him with his head facing the other end of the bed or diagonal in the cot come the morning. He can also sit unaided too.

But I can't help feeling anxious about him not sleeping on his back. Am I safe to leave him where he is comfortable?? I pop up 3 or 4 times before I go to bed rolling him back. I check the monitor and He has rolled straight back by the time I get downstairs.. lol.

Someone reassure me it's ok to leave him to get comfy as he chooses once he can roll! I'm sure I'm just being a worrier.

TIA

Absolutely fine! A lot of babies prefer sleeping on tummies or sides once they can roll. The issue is with putting them in positions they can't get themselves in and out of. Newborns can't lift their heads well or roll well, but a six-month-old is fine.

My baby started at 6 months on his side, now at 8 months he's completely on his tummy and sleeps soundly and looks really comfy

I used to be so anxious, but it's really comfy for him

Hiya,

Please don’t worry! The advice is to put them to sleep on their back - once they can roll, it’s fine to allow them to do so.

So keep putting him down on his back as you are, but if he shifts around in the night, don’t fret! :)

Yes it's fine. My 7mo has been sleeping on his tummy since he started rolling at 4mo.
