Sleep

My 6 month old has stopped sleeping through the night

Hello,

I am a first time mum to my almost 7 month old baby boy, he was originally a really good sleeper from about 8 weeks where he slept for 10/12 hours through the night , but from about 5 months he started getting up more and more in the night, sometimes he will go straight back to sleep when I rock him other times he will want milk before he goes back to sleep. He is currently on two/three meals a day which consist of weetabix , porridge , fruit, veg and some finger foods like rusks and organic puffs so I don't know how he could be hungry in the night , I would normally catch up on sleep with him the next day but he has now started fighting sleep in the day and not taking naps which I'm surprised of because I take him to baby groups 3/4 times a week

I also rocked him to sleep from the start so he doesn't know how to self sooth , I really don't like the idea of controlled crying or letting him cry it out I tried before and only lasted about 20 seconds !!

I put white noise on and try to cuddle him on the bed but sometimes in the night but he will be wide awake , he doesn't like being put in his cot and when I'm so tired I've resulted in putting him in bed between me and his dad which I think he's starting to get into a habit of which is not what I want

I am meant to be doing a couple of hours work a day from home which I am finding so hard because I'm so tired

Any advise on why he might have stopped sleeping so good and what I could do would be really helpful x

Thank you x

Normal to need to feed during the night well into second year. But it's also about comfort, thirst or just needing some help to get back to sleep.

Also normal for sleep to get worse as well as better- google 'sleep regression'

Also normal to want to be close to parents- cosleeping isn't the end of the world and it won't last forever even if you do. I actually sleep better next to DS a lot of the time, even at nearly 2 and a half.

Maybe not the answer you wanted, but there isn't an easy answer and I'm not ever going to be the person suggesting sleep training of any kind

@Harrysmummy246
Night feeds in the second -third year ? No thanks 😂 id be offering a cup of water

@Snah19 my 6 month old goes through phases of sleeping through the night and then he could be up every two hours and fighting naps. Just go with it and hopefully baby will settle down again it is so tough and knackering though as you get used to having them sleep through😩 !

Its not anything we’re doing wrong though ..sometimes think it’s teeth sleep regression or illness. X

Sometimes you just have to put up with this stuff. None of mine slept reliably all night until age 2 and we just managedo somehow. I think most people who say their DC do are exaggerating.
