My DD went through the night from 4 weeks and would regularly sleep in her cot in the day. Now she will rarely sleep in the cot in the day. She is so busy at CM that she doesn't always go down but sleeps in the car or buggy. (I commute to work at the moment so she usually gets 2 35 min naps in the car.) Now it's school hols she hasn't been going to CM and in the last 4 weeks has rarely gone to sleep in her got. I've got in the habit of walking in the afternoon and she sleeps then. Going to sleep at night was never a problem because I had a firm routine of bath, bottle, story and bed. I'd put her down awake and frequently she drops off in a few minutes or babbles to herself for 20 mins or so. Last week my Mum had her over night. She was unsettled so my Mum got her up until she fell asleep on the sofa!!!! Now DD screams the moment I go to put her in the cot. She literally sobs, stands up (as best she can in the grobag) and shreaks. I've been waiting 5 minutes going in giving her a quick cuddle (which calms her completely down) and put her back down. Where she literally sobs again. Saturday night and tonight. She cried so much she was sick (no other signs of being unwell and is full of life the moment I strip her down to go in the bath). She is teething but we've never had an issue going to bed before. I'm worried now she appears to be making herself sick. Sorry it's a bit long winded but wanted to give as much info as possible cos I dread ringing HV for advice.

hi sweetheart, sorry it's taken so long for someone to answer you

as tired as i am at the moment, i feel that it's aminly because (a) she is teething and a distant 2nd (b) because she was allowed to fall asleep on hte sofa. i am not blaming your mom as she did what she thought was best tho maybe, with hindsight, it wasn't.

dd, aged 2 and 4months, has also recently started waking up in thenight again and last night was the only night since thursday where she didn't wake up til half 6am(tho that's another story) - she is alos teething.

i shouldn't worry too much about contacting your hv, if she is a good one then she won't mind helping yout hrough what can be a difficult stage for parents and children.

hth x fm

ps it's also about this time that they might not sleep so much during the day as they don't want to miss all the fun!

It depends which way you want to go with it really. I'm quite AP and they slept with my for a while before going into their own rooms and beds and we never had a problem with that as they were ready. Always cuddle and hold to sleep or feed, walk around with etc. Suited us but I realise it's not for everyone.

Thanks. I'm going to keep going with the routine as my gut feeling is she just wants to get up and play and it maybe her teeth. What's AP?

Again he is teething so I think we'll have to grin and bear it

when we had periods like this I found that a half dose of medised worked really well. It helps with the pain of teething and makes them slightly drowsy and relaxed.

I have had EXACTLY the same thing. I ended up waiting 5 minutes, going in calming down (which includes finding dummy and putting it within reach) and leaving. DH picks him up which seems to prolong screaming. After a week or so of this it seems to have stopped completely. Worst nights seems to consist of him waking up 3-4 times screaming. No idea what starts it, teething? Change to routine? Just cos he fancies it? Sounds as if you are doing exactly the right thing - general calming, leaving, etc - should sort itself out. But I know how much noise they can make - which at 2 in the morning always sounds even louder!

I she maybe over tired and you may need to bring her bedtime forward a bit?

She goes to bed between 6.30-7.00 . I followed the baby whisperer so if I see the window earlier I do try and get her to bed. She sleeps until 6.30 the next morning normally.

My hubbie keeps suggesting giving DS some medised or calpol, but I'm scared that I'm just drugging him to get a good nights sleep.
