Sleep

Dad’s first night....

Ebf 18 mo DS2 fed to sleep an hour ago and left to sleep in his own bed (in a bed now as could climb out of cot!) He’s up already. Tonight we decided this would be it- I’m fed up of cosleeping and him waking for boob every single hour every night. This week we all had a tummy bug and I’ve had enough of being totally shattered....so tonight’s the night that daddy goes in to cuddle him every wake up. It’s the first wake up and we had screams for 10 mins but for 10 mins now it’s been quiet....oh no...I hear snoring. Think they’re both asleep.
We did this with DS1 and it worked , but I was pregnant so we had to. This time it’s a case of having to for my own sanity. I’ve been feeding for 3.5 years now at night and I can’t do it anymore. Happy to do the bedtime feed and one in the morning but will have to try to cut down daytime feeds too. Wish us luck! Anyone in the same boat?

Sounds like it's going well in your house....snoring together. Very cute
Hope you get loads of sleep tonight

Do I go in and nudge DH so he can come back to bed or do I leave them to it? He's a heavy sleeper too- I'd worry about him sleeping in there and squashing toddler!!!
Omg please let this work tonight. I need sleep so badly

I'd poke my head in and if hes not on top of him I'd leave them to it. When baby wakes up again at least your dh is there and will wake without any prodding from you. Blissful sleep awaits

How did you do it? I hope it doesn't take us too long. DH is away with work for a night next week so hope we make some progress by then...
I think it's taken a while for me to admit that we needed to night wean. I'll miss the cuddles

The crying has started again. Think DH tried to get out and woke him up. 😫

I first worked on self settling and breaking the association between feeding and going to sleep. I did a shh pat and gentle retreat.

Worked great for naps and going to sleep but made bugger all difference for night wakings!

We just went cold turkey, my DH cuddled and shushed DS, he was never left to cry. First night was tough but got easier each night.
Little guy is cutting his first tooth and is a bit unsettled overnight but DH and I have deal, anything pre 4.30am is him and anything after is me. I’ve been giving DS a feed at about 5am if he gets up and he goes back to sleep until after 7.

Yes I think it may be back to being my turn after 5am. I think we'll have to agree a time! It's gone quiet....think he's trying to sneak out

Nope, crying again. Oh dear. I wonder how long DH can cope for before bringing him in.

He lasted an hour or so and then DS1 woke up with tummy ache which woke up DS2. Now daddy and DS1 are downstairs and I'm feeding little one. Fail. More worried about DS1 though to be honest if his sickness bug still hasn't gone yet poor thing. Another rubbish night. I'm used to it but I don't want DH to get fed up as he needs sleep too and is looking after everyone 😞

Turns out DS1 didn't have a wee before bed and was holding it in and that's what gave him a tummy ache. At least with the little one we lasted til 1am for boob. That's so much better than normal. Now we just have to find a way to get them to sleep in their own rooms. 😫
