Hi

Please someone help me... I’m so close to having a breakdown.

Baby boy is now 11 months soon to be 1 in mid August...

Before the clocks changed time I think before Easter baby was in such a good routine for months since he was newborn.

Routine BEFORE;

  • Wake up 6.30/7sh am
  • Milk & play
  • Nap 8.30am
  • 9.30sh am- Breakfast
  • Play
  • 11.30sh- Nap
  • 2.pm- Milk & Lunch
  • Play
  • 4sh- Nap (Sometimes)
  • 5pm- Dinner
  • 6sh- Bath & bedtime

And he would self soothe and easily just be asleep every night 7-7.30pm max.
Note this was when he was sleeping in his Chico next to me crib

March/April we had to take him out of that crib also wasn’t safe he was sitting up

Ok so now his pattern is...

8am- 9sh- Wake up; Milk & Breakfast
11sh- Nap
3pm- Wake up; Milk & Lunch
5sh- Nap if he’s tired or just silent time in his cot
6pm- Milk & dinner
7pm- Bath & bed

We start about 7.30sh but he constantly fights and cries and whimpers and screams in his cot bashing his head and body so hard against the cotbed.

He will eventually sleep at 11PM!!!!!

WTH am I doing wrong? I am so exhausted my lower back is throbbing and I swear I’m getting an ulcer due to fatigue 😩

Why is he now having a 4 hour sleep 11 til 3 pm? Wake him up after two hours at one pm for lunch
Less nap
Shorter naps
More active in day
Will sleep at night

Am I understanding your post right? He's sleeping from approx 11am to 3pm?

Is that what it is?

I don’t know why he’s started sleeping so long from 11-3pm. I just thought because he’s so exhausted from lack of sleep at night. I’m sure he’s getting bags 😑

When he sleeps I feel terrible for waking him. But should I be?

He’s literally screaming and crying away right now... 😩

Posted too soon...Also according to your post when he's not eating or sleeping he has silent time in the cot. He should really be getting lots of stimulation by now and at this time of year plenty of time outdoors if possible. If he gets this, then sheer tiredness will send him to sleep at a reasonable hour in the evening.

I mean this kindly, but are you getting enough help and support yourself?

I think the first nap is too long and the second nap is too late in the day. My DD is just a little younger than your DS and she would refuse to go to bed too if she has a nap that late in the day (which has happened a few times). My DD naps 11am til 1pm and a second one around 4pm to 4.30pm if she looks for it. 4.30pm is the absolute cut off point after which I keep her up, as she would be awake until 10pm if I let her nap later than that. As it is she is usually asleep by 7.30pm or 8pm latest if she had the second nap.
In your shoes OP, I would try waking him after 2 and a half hours max and bringing him for a walk if possible in the afternoon, I find my DD sleeps better if she's had some fresh air during the day.

Everything needs moving forward a couple hours. Short morning nap, longer lunch time nap. No naps late afternoon,

I meant to say in my post, I hope you get sorted soon OP, that fatigue from trying to get them to sleep when they just won't is the worst Flowers

Thank you all. I really had no idea :-(

I guess I have just let him sleep for my own convenience if I am honest because I can have breakfast/house chores/cook dinner etc etc. And one of the main reasons why I have been doing this is - I don't have help. It's been a real struggle since I gave birth :-( We live up north and my family are in London so virtually no support, no help etc.

I will start trying this tomorrow hopefully! Thank you all x
