My son is 6 and a half months sleeps from 8pm right thru til 7am but has never been great at napping during the day. He will nap a hour in the mornings then the of the day itl only be 20-30mins but still bes really tired an gets so cross and cranky and crys and i have trouble keepn him until 7pm for his night feed. I have tried everything from all different white noises, dark room etc but he just wont nap. Health visitor says he doesnt need much naps but hes clearly so tired. Any one any ideas to help please??

Argh, opposite problem here - 7mo naps like a champ, goes to bed okay, but likes to feed several times during the night. Not ideal...
What helped with napping was walking to sleep in the pram, and then leaving him outside. He's wrapped up warm, now it's starting to get a bit chillier, and I get 1 hr in the mornings and then 2 hrs most afternoons.
But every baby's different, so realise this may not work for you. Good luck...

Have you tried car, pram, sling for napping? My DS was always difficult to get down for a nap in his cot but it improved at around 9 months. He'd catch a nap when we were out walking Irvin the car.

Similar to PPs, my dd tends to nap in her pram as she'll sleep for longer that way. You could try bringing his bedtime forward a bit? Do last feed slightly earlier?

He sleeps in the car wen im out. Gets to the point wer i havta put him in car just to get him to sleep which isnt ideal as im trying to work from home and health visitor has said i cant get him use to that. He wont sleep in the pram when im walking either just looks all around him. He feeds at 7pm and any earlier he isnt ready for his bottle. I keep being told he doesnt need much sleep cos he sleeps at nite but he clearly does. The odd 20-30mins just doesnt be enough. Im hoping in time he will nap longer as i cant get much done around the house wen hes so cranky. He just fights his sleep so much and i feel im not doimg something right as my friends babies nap 2hrs in afternoon an nap again before night bottle

Try not to compare to friends children.. I did and got no where other than stressed. Car and pram naps are fine, your not instilling bad habits like feed to sleep etc. Some children just nap shorter naps.. Yes it would be better if one long one but you can't force it.

Both my boys have been short nappers (1hr max at a time, more often than not around 40 mins). Not all babies have long naps.

I agree with PPs. Babies are different and there's only so much you can do. My dd is like that in the pram too so I often use a blackout shade. Might be worth a shot
