Sleep

2.5 year old sleep, wits end

My 2.5 year old daughter was previously quite a good sleeper, bar illness. She would have a good nap in the day (12.30- 2.15 ish) and then self settle in her cot about 7.30 sleeping until about 6.45 am. I had a new baby in November and we had a few sleep issues then but nothing lots of snuggles and reassurance didn't deal with. However in the last four weeks things have really changed. She started taking hours to fall asleep and then waking up 3 times a night and screaming and shouting and refusing to sleep and then ultimately throwing herself out of her cot, so we had to move her to a bed. She will still happily settle for a nap though. We've tried reducing and dropping the nap and that has made the going to sleep part at the beginning of the night easier but she is still waking and now just getting out of bed and screaming at the stair gate. If I lie next to her she will try and sleep but it's taking hours and I'm so tired with my other daughter still waking up to feed. My eldest daughter only wants me (although my partner tries!) but ultimately she will only settle if I sleep with her which I don't want to do long term. Her last molars are coming through but this has been going on for over a month now....could it be teeth? Any advice please????!!!!

She's old enough to try negotiate with IMO, although the new baby may have unsettled her. I'd sleep in the bed with her (not sure where baby goes!) when you go in to settle her. It won't be forever.

Thanks lalaleona - she is, did this last a month with your toddler? I didn't think teething could cause this much disruption for so long!!

Yes it genuinely did but then my son has always been absolutely terrible with every one of his teeth. He just seems to have a really low paIn threshold so we always have several weeks of bad moods and crap sleep while each molar comes through and they come through very very slowly!
