New thread for night (and daytime!) chatter for those awake more than they'd like with a non sleeping baby/child 😊

My DS is six months. First baby likely to be only baby if I don't start getting more sleep! He is a nap and sleep fighter but incredibly cute so I choose to forgive him 😂

Thanks for starting a new thread Jellybean2017!

DS is 7months this week. Some nights are okay, some nights are awful. I never know what I'm going to get!

7 months next week. Hourly wake ups since 4 months. So so so tired.

Ds 4 months. Waking every few hours at the moment so not as bad as some/has been. Still only naps on me but has refused afternoon nap 2 days in a row 😖

9 days old here.... Also have a 2 year old waking due to teething and a 3.5 year old waking in the morning just as I'm ready to go back to sleep!!!!

@noname687328 that sounds tough. I've just got 2, ds1 2 in a month and ds2 almost 4 months.
Ds1 is a good sleeper although will only go to bed for dad 😩

Ds2 hourly waker from 1am onwards. Can sometimes settle him with a dummy but usually need to feed him. So so tired.

noname687328 · 21/02/2018 02:52

@lizzlebizzle33 arghhh!!!! Are you breast feeding? Is he still in your bedroom?

When my 2nd was born my eldest was 20 months and he started waking for up to 5 hours a night, for 8 weeks! It was horrendous. I was more tired by that than by having a newborn.

My 9 day old is so windy, feeding takes so long as I have to hold her upright for ages after a feed and it takes so long to lay her down again.

Report
lizzlebizzle33 · 21/02/2018 03:16

@noname687328 ds1 was just like that! He started waking 3+ times a night screaming for mama, but when I went in he would throw himself back and scream even more. I ended up giving in and taking him down to watch telly a few times as it was the only way to stop the craziness!

Thankfully that's all stopped now but if I try to put him to bed he just screams when I put him in his cot and I have to pick him back up again for a hug, but he goes to bed fine for dad, grr.

Yes I'm BF ds2, his night feeds are frequent but quite short. I've found offering him a dummy has helped a lot, until it falls out of his mouth an I have to get up again to pop it back in.

A little trick I've learned is I keep his dummy down my top until he needs it, so it's all warm and booby 😂

How is your eldest with the baby? Have they bonded? It's a difficult age to introduce a new baby, I've found that out the hard way!

Checking in,

Nappy/pyjama change after DS (2weeks old) did a poo all over me/him whilst changing.

Now onto the feeding/winding before presumably another nappy change Confused

Hi everyone thanks for new thread @Jellybean2017

How is everyone?

I'm on day 4 of trialling DS on regular formula after ,6weeks on prescribed formula due to potential CMPA and he seems to be fine, no reactions and dare I say a lot less regurgitation and vomiting although as I've learnt these past 3months of trial and error to not get disheartened or hopes up just after a matter of days with these things

So we shall see in a couple of weeks I guess.

He seems to be more upset with wind for longer post feed I guess he's getting use to new milk but anyone have issues with Aptimil for wind would you suggest thickening it or getting comfort to help with this?

Sleeping now much better than taking it in shifts to hold him and sleeping separately

It's now goes in Moses asleep around 9pm sleeps until around 12/1am has a feed and winding falls asleep in arms back in basket within 30mins if waking and sleeps until 3/4am

However from 4am he wakes up every 45min/1hr intervals until about 6ish and then he's wide awake ready for the day.

I know I shouldn't complain as getting marginally closer to some kind of normality than what we've had last 3months getting to be in same bed at same time and not having to hold DS the whole time while he sleeps but would love to know if reason for this 4am wake up and then hourly wake up as don't know how long I can be making myself go to bed by 9pm and then essentially be awake for day at 4am. I'm essentially still getting 3hrs solid but now getting atleast 2-3hrs extra but of broken sleep which is improvement for me...

However DH hasn't benefitted from this as I was taking longer shifts giving him 5hrs of solid sleep every night albeit 1-6amor 2-7am now he's in same as me only slightly more as I'm still getting up the most for feeds as 50% of the time DS still wants to finish on boob to drift off even after a bottle (need to break that habit somehow?!)

X

@lizzlebizzle33 ahhhh both my older 2 have just been awake since half 4 😫 they both love the baby but eldest is very sensitive and has been exceptionally highly strung since her arrival! I bottle fed my eldest 2 so this is all completely new to me and I don't know if I'll manage when my husband is back to work next week, it's all very well sitting around feeding all day when he's here 😫 not to mention I'll have to be out the house by half 8 for preschool run!!!

It doesn't fill me with much hope hearing how much your little one wakes for feeding at 4 months 🙈

Bedtime was perfect last night but he woke after 1.5 hours and screamed.

Fed back to sleep. Slept for half an hour.

Woke up. Screamed.

Was up until midnight screaming.

Slept for 3.5 hours. Was up for a feed.

Slept for 3 hours, but thrashed every ten minutes it felt like so I barely slept.

Woke at 6.35 and screamed. Slept in ten minute increments until 7.05, beyond exhausted but just keeps screaming at me.

He's now chewing off my nipple as he feeds and I could honestly throw up on him I'm that exhausted.

6.5 months old and has seriously gone downhill, so much for the magic effects
of weaning on sleep.

I swear if he pulls and bites my nipple at the same time once more I'm going to have to get up and leave him to scream.

Nearly 7 month old baby here too. We’ve sleep trained using Ferber, and baby now sleeps through (barring illness). Hanging around here because I’m sure there’s another regression around the corner!

Thanks for the new thread Jellybean2017!!

LO is six months and has been an awful sleeper since 16 weeks. Started sleep training a couple of weeks ago and things have improved greatly but still up once or twice a night. Hanging around as it's early days with the sleep training and we're definitely not there yet. This group has been a godsend!

Also have almost 7yr old DD and almost 10yr old DS. Both sleep well except for the occasional bad dream when they come in to us for a cuddle!

We are still sleep training (nearly 7 months old). Started end of last week. He's going to sleep at about 7 each night waking for feeds at 10ish, 1ish and 5ish. We get the odd other wake up where we go in to resettle but don't feed. He stays in his own cot in his own room between 7 and 5. Then I bring him into bed with me for the last couple of hours and DH gets kicked out to spare room! Usually it's only taking 15 mins for DS to fall asleep. We have a video camera so can see how he's doing. Didn't want to sleep train but he was screaming in my arms every night, wouldn't sleep without me, wanted to go to bed at 6pm and was waking 6-8 times, sometimes awake for over an hour at 4am. He's getting at least two more hours sleep per night than he was prior to when we started sleep training. So I'm trying to focus on the positives instead of feeling like a horrible mum!

Thanks for the new thread!

DD 6.5 months old, suspected allergies, so can't and wom't sleep train.
She wouldn't sleep in her cot from 12 weeks old, has always napped on me, but has been surprising us recently.
After being resettled by DH at 9pm last night, she slept till 5.20am again! That's when Ibbrought her into our bed and she did another 3 hours with me. And she's been sleeping in her cot which is a massive improvement.
I am not counting my chickens just yet as I am well aware that baby sleep is not linear. We are hoping to move to her bedroom in the next couple of months, if she's ready.

user I think the 4am onward wakings are due to the fact that melatonin levels naturally fall at that point so we're more prone to waking. I always find those last few hours in the night the worst and when I don't sleep well myself my days often start at 4am!

jellybean2017 you're not a bad mum! Far from it! The routine you have now with LO is pretty much the same as ours: bedtime feed at 7pm, dream feed 1030pm, one to two night feeds between 130 and 5am.
The next step id like to take is to come down to one night feed. One step at a time though!!

@Jellybean You're not a bad mum. You're not doing it for your own convenience or because you don't care. It's clear that your DS is at the heart of it all.
We will all make difficult decisions as parents and question ourselves as to whether we're doing the right thing.

DD is currently asleep. For now...Time to get some supper. DH bought hot cross buns free from all the allergens I'm avoiding 😊

Thanks for the new thread!

I have a 5m old DS2 and 3.5yo DS1. DS1 has always been a fantastic sleeper, well until DS2 came along, DS1 is very sensitive (hello noname) and his sleep has gone to pot so I'm doing sort of sleep training with him as he will only have me put him to bed. DS2 is a terrible sleeper, 3 feeds is a great night, and if there's anything disturbing him, teeth, cold, cough, temperature, too warm, not warm enough, too light, etc etc he wakes loads. He will not take a bottle so all night wakings for both are down to me.

Last night was so horrendous I didn't even have the energy to post. DS2 has an awful cold and woke pretty much every hour. DS1 made it til 6 I think so that was a bit of a win. Tonight DS2 has woken an hour after going to bed, I'm feeding him as he wouldn't be settled otherwise but he doesn't need it. It's going to be a very very long night. I have the cold too, everything aches and my head is banging so I can't blame DS2 for not being able to sleep poor thing.

Found you all! Thanks @jellybean (who is most definitely not a bad mum but an amazing one Grin).

Percy here. Two DC - DD aged 2, who after a reign of over 2 years worth of sleep terror is mostly sleeping through, and DS, aged 3 months, who has taken up where she left off...

On a good night he will sleep.in his cot from 9 till 2, he even did till 3 last week. Then I might be able to resettle him for another hour, after that he's in with me. On a bad night, he is massively unsettled for the second part of the night, lots of waking even in with me, can sometimes be awake for hours.

I think it's all normal, given his age and the fact he's a breastfed baby. But I wouldn't mind a bit of an improvement Grin Four month regression round the corner though, so I'm not too hopeful of anything getting better yet.

Went to dentist today and found out I need a tooth removed and a major filling Sad. Don't know about the rest of you, but two pregnancies have really done a number on my gums. They've been very sensitive and bleed easily. My dentist warned me to keep on top of things with regular flossing etc.but when you've got two small children constantly demanding your attention, that doesn't always happen and I'm in luck if I manage just a quick brush! Will be changing that now though! Hate the dentist so am dreading the treatment.

Good luck tonight all!

I managed to get DS asleep, he's been down for a couple of hours and I probably should have gone to bed as he will be up any minute but DH is at work so I had time to myself. I cannot remember the last time it was just me.

In good news I found Scrubs on Prime so I've got that to binge on in the day time now.
