As a first time parent, most reading has you terrified of SIDS. When they r a newborn it says not to put anything in the cot to keep it clear. And the guidelines say although upto 6 months, a year is best. My LO is now 7 months and I wondered if it is now ok to give him a comforter or teddy for sleeping with. I have looked into breathable ones as I am still concerned about could he suffocate??? I think he is ready as he seems to be snuggling up to you and has never bothered with a dummy, but now seems to want it for comfort. Any advice on best age to start giving teddies or comforters for sleeping with, in a safe way.

Mine had one from birth - I just moved it once asleep.

Probably from 4/5 months I just left it there - small jellycat comforter with a blanket bit attached.

If he can pull something of or move it away from his face. Play ‘peekaboo’ type games with teddies and blankets to see how he responds.

I think dd had one from about 3 or 4 months that we moved away when she was asleep but I’m sure when she went in her own room (6 months) we stopped doing that as we’re confident she wouldn’t get stuck.

I did once he started flipping over and sleeping on his front. I figured he had the strength and movement to shift himself if he couldn't breathe properly, so around 8 or 9 months ish.

I didn't want him getting attached to one soft toy in particular so he has a muslin for a comforter and I swap teddies every so often.
