Baby is 10 months.
Has been an absolutely brilliant sleeper all her life and has slept 12 hours from 12 weeks And 13 or 14 hours from about 4/5 months. At 8 months we had a tough couple weeks whilst cutting 4 teeth combined with an ear infection. Since then she went back to her old routine of 7pm-8am for about a week but the last week has been awful. She settles no problem at 6.30/7pm but has been waking around 10/11pm and not getting back to sleep until 12/1am then waking for the day at 6am.

We have never had to use any form of sleep coaching or even give consideration to her sleep as she's always been such a dream but I now suspect this is bad habits forming as well as just a phase of development or teething etc. She has never had much in the way of daytime naps which I assumed was because of the amount of sleep she was getting at night. Lately she has about 1 hour around late morning. She is knackered bless her (And so are we!!)

We have been chaotic in our approach to this waking as we just assumed it was a night or two whilst teething but it appears she's gonna keep this up for a while so I want to stamp it out.

I don't want to give her a bottle at night, we have done so the last couple nights but a) she doesnt really want it and b) it doesn't seem to have any positive effect on her resettling afterwards.

I'm thinking today I will give her an afternoon nap at 4pm and I assume this will push bedtime back a bit to maybe 8pm. If/when she then wakes tonight I'm going to comfort and replace in cot once and move onto controlled comforting without taking her out of the cot again. I know CC is a bit controversial on here. Anyone else have any other words of wisdom? I refuse to allow my dream baby to vecome.hideous at night after being an absolute angel all her life.

That last line is tongue in cheek by the way. I am fully aware that the precious princess calls all the shots in our household!!!

At 10 months maybe a bit more of a structured routine would help. I know your baby hasn't been much of a napper but if night sleep isn't great either then it's a recipe for overtiredness which isn't fun for anybody.
A typical 10 month routine would be
6.30-7am wake and milk
8/8.30 breakfast
9.30-10 nap
11.45/12 lunch
1-3 nap
3 milk or yoghurt
5/5.30 dinner
6 bath
6.45 milk
7/7.30 bed

My DD is 10 months and she and other 10 month olds we know are doing the same. Her natural routine is similar to the pp above. A good night for us is two feeds (breastfed). At the moment she's waking every couple of hours Hmm. Brew hopefully it won't last long!

I guess I should be grateful we have flown through all the leaps and regressions so far!

My DD is ten and a half months and has been all over the place sleep wise for the past week! Last time we had a phase like this she crawled a few days later. So I'm repeating the mantra "this too shall pass" and hoping she will do something amazing when it does!! Grin

I'd say a more structured routine will do your baby good. Instead of a late morning nap and teatime nap, could you try a single, longer lunch time nap?

With a usually very long overnight sleep, it's reasonable that less daytime sleep will be needed. I'd be inclined to stay busy in the morning, give an early 11am lunch followed by a bottle and then into sleeping bag and into cot. Aim for at least 2 hours nap.

Thank you for the sensible approach. Today has been a 30 min nap at 11 and a 30 min nap at 3.45pm and bed at 7.30. Will try the new daytime routine if tonight goes the way of the last few! I'm feeling less desperate than i was when I posted the OP. A day with sleep deprived mummy friends who reminded me I've had about 3 bad nights in the last 300 lol.. put it back in perspective!
