Help, need some advice please. We have gotten into a really bad routine of lying on the floor in my son's room until he drops off to sleep - recently this has been taking longer and longer and its just too much. If we try and leave before hes asleep he literally screams the house downSad I am having another baby in 5 weeks time so really can't continue with this, any ideas? Tia

Sorry no advice, we are still doing this. I took over lying with the toddler from my wife before the new baby was born. He's almost 3 now and I still have to lie with him all night, as he wakes so much. My wife deals solely with the baby now and me with the toddler.

At that age DS used to demand we 'sit chair' next to his bed, it worked for a while and then he'd start trying to get our attention through the bars (of the cot, not a cage).

Now if he's having a wobble I sit on the landing out side of his room, so about 1.5m from his door and he's the other side of the room. He can see me, he knows I'm there but he can't engage with me. It's also easier to sit there with the laptop and get on with some work.

We rarely have to do it now and once he goes to bed he does tend to spend half an hour 'reading' a book before settling down.

I think he just invents new and more elaborate ways to not sleep :D

Not sure if it will work but worth a try, my daughter was much better when we turned her cot into a bed. She always used to fall asleep in our room but then wanted to go in her own room when we converted her bed.
