Sleep

Naps without feeding to sleep

My 21 month old currently feeds to sleep for her nap. I sit in the rocking chair, rock, feed and shush for usually about fifteen minutes, then once she's asleep put her in her cot, where she will nap for 1-2 hours.

But quite frankly I'm fed up of breastfeeding and would prefer not to have to breastfeed her to sleep for her naps.

At night although I do feed her as part of her bedtime routine, she goes into her cot awake and falls asleep by herself. When she wakes in the middle of the night I feed her and put her back down awake and usually she goes right back to sleep.

But if I put her down awake for a nap, she just doesn't sleep.

I've tried not feeding, short feeds, longer feeds. With teddies, without teddies.

She's definitely not ready to drop a nap. If we're driving at her naptime she'll fall asleep in the car, and if she skips a nap, we have a terrible night's sleep (hence the 4.30am post, having been awake for over two hours...)

Does anyone have any experience of successfully weaning off boob for naps?
