Just a rant really while the toddler screams his head of at me. Had an excellent bedtime routine, bath, pj's, two stories. Milk Into cot, sleep. He got bored with one story so we changed it for the fucking gruffalo.

Couple of days in, it is ALL he wants to read. Last night, twice then into cot. Screams. I ended up reading it twice more, second time very quietly and he settled. Tonight he going bloody bonkers.

Started just waiting because he wanted the story again. Trouble is however many times read it hell want it over and over and scream when I stop.

Will be losing the book tonight

Surely it's boring as hell for everyone to read the same story over and over again? Bless him, he's probably so excited at the prospect of more stories he can't contain his excitement.

How about you let him read Gruffalo as many times as he wants in the daytime. Get loads of other books too - read feast on them all.

Then at bedtime, let him choose one. Given he's not been used to being allowed a variety of books and choosing from then, there will be the novelty factor to overcome.

But longer term, it's going to be better to develop a love of literature and books by reading loads of variety. I don't see any value in the same book. Routine can be routine with the reading of a book, there's no jecessilty for it to be the same book.

Oh he has loads, loads of books. I started doing the bedtime books and then he liked them, and wanTed just those (I changed them about a while ago but he kept going back to the same two until this week) He's got loads of others and we read daily, he gets a favourite every now abs then which he wants all the time but it's never resulted in screaming before.

He loves books, takes after me I think.

Get the gruffalo on cd. Read the book then put the cd on and leave the room. My son loves going to sleep listening to a story cd?

He will choose the Gruffalo, without a doubt. I can't just read it over and over. Not sure how to tackle the screaming.

Last night I picked hi up, read it again, put in cot and read it very quietly. That didn't work tonight.

Could you record yourself reading it in a quiet and soothing voice, read it live once a night and then put on the recording on repeat so it plays quietly all night?

Tonight we are away. Left the bastard gruffalo at home, went back to the two originals. No problems.

I will change the books around, but I think gruffalo and stick mam can stay downstairs for now.
