Ok so this is insane. Seven month old dd, wakes every hour or two ALL night. How do I sleep train without trauma?!

I did controlled crying with DS2 at 7 months, his sleeping was bad then he caught chicken pox off his brother and just stopped sleeping. The first 2 nights were bad but then became much better and 2 months on he sleeps really well.

Thanks 60percent. Which method did you use?

You could try Elizabeth Pantley's "No Cry Sleep Solution". Takes a bit longer than CC but is gentler.

What are your DD's daytime naps lie and how does she go to sleep?

What's her diet like, in terms of weaning and also maintaining milk feeds?

Any developmental changes (crawling, sitting, standing)?

We had a little cuddle, then put him down, if he kicked off I left him for 2 mins, then had another cuddle and back down. Then I doubled the time I left him, so 4, then 8 then I checked him every 10 mins. We got to 40 minutes of crying the first night but by night 3 he only cried for 2 minutes.
I felt horrible doing it but I was up almost all night otherwise and I found it so hard to look after my 2yo too. They share a room now he's that good!

Thanks Grace, 60 and Fate.

Fate your questions are really good and helpful to think about. I've got two other children and freelance work so feeds and naps are a bit random. Today though I've started with three meals at roughly set times alongside bottles and think this might help.

60 sounds like that really worked! I really want to avoid letting dd cry and so I do the thing of cuddling her in her cot. I've also found that she really likes me singing to her and sometimes it helps her fall asleep - the only one in the world who likes my singing!

Tonight she settled really quickly and has now been asleep for almost three hours - fingers crossed tonight will be better...x
