So 8 month old. On 3 good solid meals a day, plenty of water throughout the day. 3 x 6oz bottles, first thing, mid pm and bedtime.
Sleeps 45 mins in the am 9-945 and 2 hours in the pm 1-3. Bed at 645. Self settles , loves his bed etc
So why is he waking for a good hour every night chatting and partying between 1-3am. Then up for the day from 5am.....?!

This could be us! Nearly 9 month old, very happy in the day, crawling/cruising so plenty of activity, 6 teeth out so I think he's ok on that front for the moment. Naps ok, loves food etc. Yet he's awake at least 2-3 times a night looking for a cuddle. We have recently night weaned and he's definitely not hungry. When I go to him in the night he just wants to put his head on my shoulder and falls asleep again nearly instantly. It's sooo tiring but hopefully they will learn to sleep when they're ready Hmm

I'm interested in the assumption this is "right".

Is it right? Early nirnibg wake up in particular days over tired, to me. Add in a night wake and I would suggest baby uany getting enough sleep.

I am aware of some parent led routines saying 45m morning nap and 2h afternoon nap is "right". There is a poster on this forum who swears by this advice. But it won't be for everyone. In fact I'd hazard a guess that while it's a decent average to aim for, it wont be right for many babies.

For comparison with my youngest, has moved to two nap days by 8 months. She would sleep 9am-11am and 1pm-3pm every day. I would wake her from both these naps, she would sleep longer. 8pm-7am night, no night feeds. Sleeping through started inconsistently by 9m and consistantly by 12m, so I was still doing the odd dummy run. But nothing more than a few minutes semi-awake here and there in the night.

Like your baby op, she was going to sleep in cot without my help (with dummy). Good diet, good motor development.

So my suggestion would be not enough daytime sleep.

Sorry for my crap phone typing:

"Early nirnibg morning wake up in particular days says over tired, to me. Add in a night wake and I would suggest baby uany isn't getting enough sleep"

I was hoping you'd reply fatedestiny! This is after cutting down his nap times . Since doing this he's woken up less during the night and the sleep consultant lady is saying he needs to cut back further!!!! Aaaaarrrgh so confused.!!!!x

If you have paid for a sleep consultant you would be best following that advice, not mine. Otherwise it will be a complete waste of money Confused

In fact you would be best listening to your baby - more so than paid for advice or some random on the internet (me). But I know how hard baby sleep can be.

I can't argue the case here, you know your baby better than anyone on this planet. Better than me.

My answer to everything in the bany/toddler years is more sleep. Never less. It might be that the timings of sleep needs to change, but not restricted amounts of sleep.

In fact, my 11 year old sitying SATS today - my prescription is more sleep needed. My 7 year old being argumentative - my answer is more sleep needed. My 12 (going on 18) year old being stroppy... more sleep needed. Early night for everyone!

So maybe it isn't just my answer to everything in the baby/toddler years. It carries on much longer than that.

I firmly believe babies/toddlers/children need much more slerp that our society allows them. Not less.

Im getting on my soap box here. I should stop. Anyway, I have a school rin to dash off too.

My answer though is definately more sleep needed.

Agreed, more sleep not less. Maybe try waking up for a feed at 10pm, then back to bed for 11pm.

Essentially I have discovered that no matter what you do, if they won't sleep, they won't sleep.

Mine was 18 months plus before he was doing 7pm to 6am more often than not.

They're all different and individual. You'll keep trying everything under the sun to get them to sleep until one day they just do and you spend the next year recreating that routine only to realised that they did it all of their own volition in their own sweet time and nothing you did changed that. 😂
