Sleep

9 week old - anyone help with routine

My DD is 9 weeks old. She was born at 40+13 and weighed 9.4oz. She's formula fed and takes 5/6 bottles per day and is almost 11lbs.

At 2 weeks old she was sleeping 11-5am. She would wake for a feed and then back down at 5.30am and she would sleep until 7am.

At 9 weeks.... we are still the same. I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much but I thought she might have progressed more. Sooooo I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions how I can move our routine on.

I give her a bottle at around 6pm. I do bath and pjays and she snoozes down stairs with us. She isn't asleep all night but goes in and out. She takes another feed about 10 and then we all go up to bed from 10.30pm. I'm not sure when I should start bringing this forward. I'm suppose I'm worried as the 11-5am block is my best bit of sleep.

Ideally I would like my evenings back or ft her to drop the 5 am feed... both would be a bonus.

Thanks!!!

Seriously? Your baby is an amazing sleeper. She should be in the room with you until she's 6 months (so sleeping downstairs in the evening) 11-5 is an incredible stretch of sleep for that age.

Ds1 developed a bedtime around 6 months, he started reliably sleeping at 6/7pm. He still woke multiple times a night, until he was 12 months, and then when he started sleeping through would get up at 4.30-5am.

I hope your baby continues to sleep as she is doing. Don't rush to drop that feed, most babies are feeding several times a night at that age. Ds 2 is 7weeks and goes to sleep for the night about 8pm and will wake for feeding 3 times a night. If it weren't for him having reflux I'd consider this good!

Nearly 7 weeks here and, at night, DD manages one 2.5 hr chunk of sleep and is then up after every 45-90 minutes. I'd kill for what you have! Enjoy it and I would say it ain't broke so don't try to fix it.

I'd also say that's brilliant for so young. My 1 year old has just started doing similar and I'm delighted!

You have nothing to worry about.

Your baby is sleeping a million times better than many babies of that age. I wouldn't mention it to too many other new patents Smile.

Even my "good sleeper" DS was not doing that at 7 weeks; DD took until over 3 YEARS to sleep more than 2 hours at a time!

Don't even bother with routines at that age! No point as it could all change in a fortnight lol. You're doing well for that long a stretch there.

I'd count my blessing and enjoy it while it lasts! Both of mine had their best period of sleep between 6 and 16 weeks, it was all downhill from there! (Both still fed at least twice a night at that time).

However, both were unsettled downstairs with us from about 12 weeks so slept in the cot in their own room in the evening (with a movement monitor/video) then came in with us for the night after feed at 10pm. Much better for them to get decent sleep than be up unsettled and crying just to follow guidelines.

^^ obviously this is personal choice but those guidelines are there to reduce the chance of sids.

Thanks ladies. I wasn't sure if I was expecting too much and clearly I am. She got herself into this routine so we have just went with it. I keep hearing people saying their babies are sleeping 7-7 and I have no idea how they have managed it and thought I was doing it wrong. Thanks for being reassuring.

Mine sleeps 8-7 but he's seven months old! He doesn't tend to wake in the night now but at 9 weeks he was more like half 9 at night till 6 (we've been very lucky with his sleep). He was the same weight as yours 😊 I think they must just love their milk and sleeping. If you're getting an extended period of sleep then just enjoy it, we had a nightmare few weeks when he hit 16 weeks but since he's gone in his own room he's been a legend.

Touching anything made of wood nearby lol

Hi OP, I'll probably get flamed but my baby went into our room in the evening for about 10 days old, downstairs until 6:20ish, upstairs, change nappy, into pj's, bottle, bed. She then (at that age) had another bottle c10:30 when we went to bed. We have a video monitor so can see her. Worked great for us as she slept better in the dark, quiet bedroom and we could relax.
