3.5 hours cuddling to sleep??!!

Multiple threads about this little one!! Not been a great sleeper since about 3 months. Finally started sleeping through in the past week, on 1 nap (she's almost 14 months). Last night she didn't sleep through, woke once and was awake for two hours, would not go back to sleep on me. On Monday night her GPs put her to bed as we were out and she took an hour to go down (normally takes ten mins, she cries but only for ten mins or less). Every night since then has got steadily worse. She did have 1 year jabs today but I thought temp etc was supposed to happen after a week! She doesn't have a temp anyway. She is teething but has nurofen and anbesol (very difficult to get into her!). She has a clean nappy. She fell asleep feeding at 6pm, slept on me for the next 90 mins, screamed every time I put her down, then my husband did the same for 99 mins except she didn't really sleep. She was very relaxed by this point, not crying. I've just fed her again and put her in her cot. She's crying and crawling around/standing in her cot. Am I missing something obvious I could be doing?! I would cosleep but she's not even bloody going to sleep at this point!!! I don't think she's ready for one nap and I think she's got so over tired but she resists naps so much I haven't been able to get her to do two :( any advice gratefully received, if I don't reply it's because she's sleeping on me!!!!

No advice as I'm on the same boat! DS 12 months also had jabs today and has been awake for over an hour. I gave calpol before bed as a preventative (hoping he'd sleep as he was very grumpy!) and since then he's had teething granules (just in case it's teeth?!) and ibuprofen. He's fed, changed, cuddled, etc. Just not tired Sad I am! I too throughly the temp and grumpiness would take at least 24 hours to set in!
Good luck, you're not alone! Flowers

Thank you that's good to hear although sorry you're going through the same!! She has finally conked out on me but oh my she was so upset, I've not seen anything like it since she was tiny! I've forced some calpol into her and I'm going to bring her into bed with me. I'm really hoping the worst is over now!!!

When my LO had her one year vaccinations, she was very unsettled for a few days, then went back to her usual self. She just needed extra comfort for a while as I think it makes them feel grotty.

We've had similar issue with 16 month old DD2, she wakes usually between 3/4am and won't go back to sleep for at least an hour, even when I take her into bed with me. Last night she set a new record of 2 hours!! At which point I thought I might actually do something I'd regret, so put her back in her cot and left her to cry, after 5 minutes she was asleep...

I wouldn't have minded so much the waking up in the middle of the night, although it's not so fun at the time. It's more that she hadn't been to sleep at all apart from dozing on me whilst feeding! She slept roughly 1-6 in the end and have had two decentish naps out of her today. She's much more cheerful this afternoon so here's hoping for a better night!!!!

This is why I cosleep. My DD will only go to sleep if I go to sleep.

I have such a sore back and legs from cosleeping last night, I am a tummy sleeper and DD will only cosleep if I lie on my back or side :( same thing is happening tonight, I'm currently lying on the floor by her cot singing to her. She's still standing up and shouting but she's hysterical at least...

What about bringing the cot back into your room? At least then you can lie on your own comfortable bed while she facts, rather than on the floor.

Also, I would have zero tolerance on standing, crawling or anything like that in the cot. Establishing the expectation that in the cot you lie down is a useful way to teach toddlers to switch off and relax.

So this will involve lots of protest crying, maybe even some frustrated screaming.

Leaning right into the cot, place your hands quite firmly on her chest/back/side (whichever way she's lying) to physically keep her still. I mean kindly of course, not in a rough way. But in an assertive, firm, "you will lie down!" way.

Some patting, shushing, tickling or whatever may help if she's screaming. But mostly you are just reitterating that in order to sleep she MUST lie down and when she is in her cot, she should be sleeping. So being in the cot should always mean lying down, all of the time.

Then you'll need to stay there until she's stilled. I would then luft my hands but stay in the leaning-into-cot position with my body. Any attempt to get up, hands straight back. Once settled, hand off. If she remains still and calm, maybe straighten up and stop leaning into the cot, but immediately back if she tries to get up in any way.

If at any point she does get up, straight away lie her back down, lean into cot, firm hands to keep her still.

If shes just had jabs, her arm may have swollen up and be very sore- have you checked for this? Temp etc. and sore arms/legs can happen immediately

My 3 year old just had his jabs recently and has massive red swollen arm, and was very grumpy for a day or 2 after

Thanks for the advice FATE, I tried that tonight but she's so strong and screams like I'm trying to murder her Confused can't move the cot it's a cotbed so won't fit in our room.
In the end the lying ignoring her kind of worked a bit in that she was calmer and she even lay down and started to drift off but then thought better of it! In the end I had to leave as I was at the end of my tether and close to snapping at her to lie down. She cried for ten mins and when I was calm enough to go back in she'd started to settle and was asleep five mins later. Whether she'll stay that way remains to be seen but we'll see I guess!
One of her jabs on her legs has come up in a bruise but it doesn't seem to bother her in the day. I have her calpol tonight and ibuprofen last night, neither made any difference... I think it's a combo of jabs/cold/teething/growth spurt. Thanks for all the suggestions though, it helps my sanity slightly!!! Flowers

When one of mine was like that it turned out to be an ear infection, hence the resistance to lying down as it makes the pain worse, might be worth visit to GP?

She always resists lying down to be honest, she just resists sleep full stop! Wink worth bearing in mind though if things don't calm down. Once she was asleep last night she slept through so I'm hoping tonight will be better again!

Good luck. Each time I see one of your posts, it sounds so familiar. It seems we have identical babies!

I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday and I've come to the conclusion that "normal" baby sleep does not exist as we all seem to be on here complaining about the same things!! Grin

O gosh my LO has his 12 month jabs on Tuesday and I've been dreading it all week and now reading these posts I'm petrified!!!!

Sorry!! If it makes you feel better she started playing up at bedtime on Monday, and Tues and Weds took 2 hours to get her to sleep so although it got far worse after the jabs something else was already going on before!!
