10 week old baby sleep

How much should a 10 week old baby be sleeping? My ds2 struggles with sleep especially during the day, he seems to be really affected by noise which means he can't settle for long periods of sleep.

Nighttime varies, first part of the evening he sleeps fairly well then wakes 2 hour intervals and then from around 4am he is very unsettled.

Can I ask how your babies sleep at night, are they unsettled like mine etc?

I have no idea why he is his unsettled every morning at this time Sad

Hope this makes sense, I am extremely tired Blush

Same with me although dd is 8 weeks sleeps well until 11ish then wakes up every 3 hours until 6. Then a bloody nightmare to get settled but I guess there is less structure for her during the day.

Have you tried a swaddle and dummy?

Mine goes for a good long nap in the morning usually, but only because I have a minder for DD1 so DD2 actually sleeps on me for that first nap Grin. I define good and long as 1 hour plus.

She'll usually have another 2 or 3 naps of anywhere between 30 and 90 mins in her sling through the rest of the day. Tends not to sleep as well for these as toddler DD1 is marauding around roaring out nursery rhymes.

Night time she goes down between 7.30 and 8.30 and either sleeps till 11 or 1 and then usually 2 hourly or 1 hourly or constant wakes till morning. Just when I'm losing the will to live she throws me the bait of only waking twice between 8pm and 8am like last night. And then I have a wakeful night as payback where my dreams of having a baby who sleeps through from an early age are crushed like an eggshell under a massive sledgehammer of insomnia.

IME with DDs 1&2 they sort of have a good chunk of sleep at first at night and then get gradually more and more wakeful till morning. But over time with DD1 (lots of time) that first chunk of sleep got gradually longer, and the waking intervals consolidated into fewer wakes. But it took ages so in summary I think all our 10 week olds are totally normal stealers of parental sleep.

Brew for all. Or maybe Wine might be better.

I have given up and got up with him so that I avoid waking the whole house,I'm so tired. He woke at 12, 1.30, 2.30, 4.17, 5.15 and since then hasn't really settled - he did a nasty poo as well 😷

In a way it's good to hear that I am not alone with the fussiness in the morning I thought it was just him.

I swaddle with a blanket and use a dummy and both work to a certain point then he just won't have it!

Doc - my toddler tends to keep ds2 awake too which is difficult but even when ds2 seems like he has slept well his night is the same!

Hope you all had ok nights last night, dp just made me a well needed coffee

You would be better monitoring awake time, not time asleep, to avoid over tiredness.

At 10 weeks expect around 30-45 minutes awake time between one daytime nap and the next. Short naps of 20-40 mins are normal.

Ok thanks FATE I do think he is over tired and I hadn't realised that 20-40 mins sleep was enough, I assumed they needed to sleep for an hour or more - my ds1 slept so well during the day so I just assumed ds2 would need the same!
Will start to monitor awake time then over next few days
