Does anyone's LO wake at 5:30am with grunts and farts? Ours is 10 weeks and has been doing this for as long as we can remember. She feeds at 2:30/3am so it isn't hunger and it's not a dirty nappy. But it's EVERY single morning and it's ALWAYS the same time. Do they all do this? And why? And can anything for be done?

does she need winding?

does she need a bigger teat, if you are bottle feeding, does she need sitting up after the 2.30 feed?

No idea - but ours is the same!! The really annoying thing is when he falls asleep he stops the coughing/grunting/noises - it seems to be a light sleep thing, but always at the same time every day. We have ear plugs.

Are her legs 'cycling' like she's colicky?

My 2 year old is still up for the day at 5.15 - I'd just get used to it!

She isn't really a colicy baby. Hardly ever cries. But if we ignore her at 5:30am she starts with grunts and finishes with a moany cry. Usually she burps quite well after the 2:30am feed but even if we try burp her at 5:30 she carries on with the grunting.

Potteringalong shock I'm hoping our LO will grow out of it. I pray she won't be doing it age two! I feel for you sad

Mine used to do that at that age. I think it was his bowels because once I started weaning he would poo at that time. Doesn't do it now at 8 months though.

My 4 year old is up at 6 - up early is just what lots of children do.

My DD did exactly same thing!! Drove me mad at the time but she stopped doing it in a few weeks. I didn't wind at night as it woke her so it was probably that but I also think in general their digestive system is still
Developing so much. I second ear plugs!

Both mine and my friend's newborns did this. It's to do with their digestive systems maturing. In both cases it totally passed by 12 weeks.

Mine is a grunter. I asked the gp, he said his were too.

My baby did this till about 3-4 months! Its so annoying I feel for you so much. She just stopped one day I guess developed more. Babies are a mystery

DS 5 months still does some epic trumps around that time. Starts grunting and moving his legs around about 30min before he's really awake, it's so annoying!

It has lessened as he got older though, but I think it just signals that he is coming out of "night time" and waking up.

Thanks you so much guys! It's good to know I we are not the only ones. And that it ends!
