Sleep

how long?

Recently my 8 month old ds has started taking much longer naps. He is currently asleep ( it's 10:30am) and has been so for two hours. I know this sounds like bliss but I'm wondering if it might affect his afternoon nap or his sleep tonight. Would, you wake him? What's usual at 8/9 months? Please advise!!

Mine was doing two long naps a day or sometimes a long and a short one, I just went with it so long as she didn't sleep after 4pm otherwise bedtime was a nightmare

I never wake DS2 from a nap, I find if he sleeps better in the day he sleeps better at night.

Thanks for your replies. He slept for two and a half hours in the end this morning and then just over an hour this afternoon. He's in bed now and hopefully it won't stop him sleeping through tonight.

For my DS sleep begets sleep, the more he has the better he sleeps. He is a complete nightmare otherwise and going down even 10 minutes late can lead to u losing hours of sleep, he's a pain in the bum!!

But no, I never, EVER wake him unless it's ABSOLUTELY necessary (and I try and manufacture that it rarely is!!)

Enjoy the peace!!

What time do you all recommend for an 8/9 month olds bed time? We currently aim to have him asleep in his cot at 7.30pm but to be honest he is very grumpy much earlier than this. I'm just worried that if I put him to bed much earlier he will be up even earlier.

DS2 is 10 months and goes to bed anytime between 7 and about 1030... we have a routine but not really a strict time. He normally goes 4 hours after he wakes up from his last nap.
You could am earlier time, DS2 seems to wake at roughly the same time regardless of when he went to bed. If he wakes earlier go back to the later time.
