Sleep

On my knees with my 11 month old

I would be so, so grateful for any help. My baby used to be a brilliant sleeper - until about 9 months he often slept from 7 til 5:30. Amazing. But something has gone very wrong.....

For about the last 2 months he has been waking loads in the night, and is getting up for the day at 4. I feed him then and occasionally he will doze but usually not, he wakes the others, and I have 3 cranky tired kids. But even that I could cope with if it wasn't for the fact that he is up every couple of hours overnight. All he needs is his dummy giving back and his hand holding for a bit, but it's still exhausting.

Anyone any ideas? I'm so tired - I had about 4 hours (broken) sleep every night for the last week, I'm struggling at work, I'm snappy with rimthe toddlers. I've tried cosleeping and it's even worse, he just lies next to me and screams. It's affecting all of us - my 3 year old is lying on the sofa with heavy eyelids as she is getting disturbed sleep too.

Sorry, this post is barely coherent. But if you can, please help me!!

Is he waking because he is losing his dummy? You could go cold turkey on the dummy and remove it. We did that. It was hell for 2 nights. Then he learnt to snuggle and dose off.
It sounds drastic but maybe ?

I have thought that.....but he can replug himself and the cot is full of them....quite often he has one in each hand when I go in. It might come to that.....but I am really reluctant to as I like knowing he has that little bit of comfort when I'm not there. Was your DT2 v upset when you did it?

(Also my twins still have them so we would have to cold turkey all 3 of them at once.....)

Hmmm. DD has always has phases of doing this. But only for a couple of weeks at a time.
When it's bad, I sleep in her room. We have a trundle bed so I get a comfy night. Could you make a bed in baby's room so at least when you do sleep it's pleasant sleep?
DD went cold turkey at 11mths with dummy because we lost them all. Four days break away in a travel cot in a room with us coincidentally and dummy habit was broken.
We've always put it down to growing spurt but two months is a long time do I wouldn't have thought it was that.
Only ideas I have are to make sure he is full but I am sure you are doing that already.

He was a pain in the arse for a night. After that he learned to snuggle ok. He was in his own cot by that time so can't have been much younger then your DS. Still in a grobag an no blankie or cuddlies. Maybe it was luck? He was a hungry kid to so a starchy snack before bed worked too. He would graze all day but nothing bulky. Other DT was opposite.

DS (10mo) is going through the same at the moment so i know how horrible this is.

He's going through a separation anxiety phase at the moment so we're just riding it out (or at least its a case of we hope its a phase and one that emds soon)

Im sorry i have no solutions for you

Only other TIO I have is to X eyelet shake uprooting a. If he has now become used to this routine of sleep/wake/sleep/wake, then he may think this is what he's supposed to do? Maybe switch some things round? This may be bollocks though.

We went cold turkey on the dummy as dd was biting them.

First night she whined a bit.
Second night, she asked. I reminded her it was broken and got put in the bin.

Third night. Never looked back.

But... she does have my smelly old tee shirt.
So she can smell me, without me being there.
This calms her no end.

Pick a shirt that you don't mind losing. With no sequins or other dangers...

Wash it.
Give it a squirt/slash /spray of whatever deodorant or perfume you wear.

Let it "settle" for a bit.

Pop it in his bed. Dd sometimes cuddles hers. Other times, she pays it on her pillow.
