What time does your toddler nap?

Dc3 is 17mo. Wakes 730 ish. Generally shows sleepy signs 1045am onwards, sometimes a bit later. But he's still monkeying about now and not asleep. Wondering if I need to push nap time back and do an early lunch?? He sometimes gets so cranky and over tired by 11am though, then other days like today still singing away at 1145.

I can't remember the transition of nap times at this stage with the older two as they're 7&9. Do I need to ride it out a few months and adjust the time each day depending on how he seems or push for a slightly later nap at 12ish, with quiet time and lunch before hand? When he does go off he generally has 90 mins +.

At that age mine was napping 11am until 1.30pm. He is now 24mo and goes down for nap at 12 and I wake him at 1.30. The time putting him down has gradually got later over the last few months. TBH, every child is different - some have given up napping at that age and some will go down before lunch/after lunch, who knows? Just follow his lead. (Also, I still give mine a snack late morning and lunch after nap, usually around 1.45, this works for us).

Mine has always got up between 6 and 7am though, you could always get him up at 7am so he is more tired for nap?

We did lunch at 11 then a nap ASAP after that then pushed it back until he dropped it Sad

I pushed it back when he woke up too early in the morning as it seemed to be connected. I never understood that.

15 month old wakes between 430 and 500, naps 20min at 900, and 40min at 1230, bed around 1800.

That sounds a long day winchester

Have you ever tried pushing the nap back? It might improve when it's one nap in a few months.

Used to be longer with a 330 wake up so is gradually improving as we are reducing the naps, tried later bit she isn't quite ready for that yet. Her brother dropped naps altogether around 18-20 months so I'm expecting them to just phase out altogether soon tbh.
It is a long day but nursery is 600-1400 so much of it is someone elses to deal with and she seems happy so that's all fine with me. Grin

26mo.

Naps at 10am. Always has since he started having a decent-length day-sleep at 12mo. Have just started waking him after an hour as nights have been awful. He's up before 6 always. (Except for a lovely 8 weeks just before his 2nd birthday where he slept through AND got up at 7)

I've tried and failed on MANY occasions to push it back with no avail. He pretty much puts himself down if I don't.

We usually have some TV time between 3 and 4 to compensate for the long afternoon.

At that age DD slept from 11:30-13:30 (on a good day!). She gets up at 7:30ish and goes to bed at 19:30ish.

She's just turned 2 and we've had to shorten the nap to an hour as she was taking two hours to fall asleep at night. So now she goes in her cot at 12 and falls asleep between then and 12:30. I wake her up after an hour if she doesn't wake herself.

It took awhile to get it right! It's hard, isn't it?

20mo DD until a few months ago was on 2 x 45mins, around 10 and 3. When she started sleeping longer in the morning and dropping the afternoon nap, we have moved it up to about 11am and she sleeps for 1-2hrs. She goes to bed at 8 and current wake up time is variable, but between 6 and 7.30 normally.

Many thanks for all the replies! I ended up getting him out of the pram, doing early lunch and then out for a walk and he's finally off, but was absolutely shattered, red droopy eyes! So I definitely don't think its the timing.

Dam these naps. Ds1 and dd were such hard work for naps, I really thought I'd cracked it with ds2 when he started napping in his pram in the kitchen around 8 mo. he's never yet slept through, still wakes 2-3 times a night, he's dairy intolerant, but not diagnosed till 9mo, by which time the crap sleep was established and I'm too knackered to do anything other than co sleep. But the naps at least worked [wails]. I'll read through all replies again in more detail after school run. Thank you again Smile

Dd is 18 months old. Wakes at 7:30 - 8am. Lunch at 12, naps for 2 hours between 1 and 3 (ideally, sometimes only 45 miniutes) after being pushed in the buggy for 5-30 minutes. Dinner at 6, then bed at 7:30.

At that age mine still had two naps a day, until around 2 years.
8.30am wake, 11-12 nap, 3-5/5.30pm nap, 9pm bed
When down to one nap they just napped roughly 2-4/5pm

At that age it would be an afternoon nap - eg 1-2.30

I am a nanny DC1 - was 11 months when she transitioned to 1 nap - she slept 12.30-2.30

DC1 (2.4) sleeps 1-3 or any nap of a minimum of 40 minutes between 1 and 3 depending on plans but I do like her to have the full 2 hours if possible.

Dc2 (9months) naps 9.00-9.45 and then 1-3

Both get up at 7 and both go to bed just after 7
