Nightmare trying transition from cot to bed

We went on holiday this week with DD who turned 2 last month and thought it would be a good opportunity to try her in a bed. Now very worried about ever getting her in a bed!

She was a little worried about falling out but the bed guard satisfied that and she went to sleep as usual. Unsettled and needed 180 degree turning at one point. But she then woke at 5:30 terrified of falling out and refused to get back in it. Luckily we'd brought the travel cot as a back up so we she was in that for the rest of the week.

When we got back home she was scared of her normal cot(-bed) and at one point I had to get in with her (done only once ever before) to get her off.

Think she's over it now but i can see her still in the cot when she's 3! Ideally I'd like it back before then as hoping for another this year.

Any tips or stories?

Will suck it up if I have to and wait til she's ready. She's never been interested in climbing out so that's a consolation. She's still in a gro bag if that's relevant.

Maybe it was the combination of being away and the bed that unsettled her? I wouldn't worry too much about it and leave her in her cot for now. Personally I don't think it matters if she's still in the cot, wherever she gets the most sleep.
A bed at home in her room with bed sheets she can choose herself may all make her more comfortable. If she is still worried about falling out I would just put the mattress on the floor.

We put (and have still got) the cot mattress on the floor by DS (2.5) bed. The odd occasion when he has fallen out, he's had a soft landing and it has only happened 4-5 times in 2.5 months with no ill effects. Good luck

Thanks. I agree her usual bed without the side will hopefully be less daunting than a whole new bed in a different location.

She slept fine tonight.

I'm going to leave it for a few more months. Can't see any advantages to encouraging her out sooner.
