Anybody else been foolish enough to take their baby to the other side of the world?

Hello,
My DS is a great sleeper - he's 3 months and sleeps from 8.30pm through to 10pm when he gets a final feed before going down again until around 6am.

However we are flying to Australia next week and I'm wondering if anybody else has done this with a small baby and how well they adapted with the jet lag etc?

Slightly bricking it that I may be saying goodbye to the great sleep pattern!

I haven't done this but IME good sleepers are good sleepers anywhere, it's the bad sleepers who tend to be affected most by travel etc.

Watch out for the 4 month sleep regression though - if his sleep does go tits up it may be because of that rather than the travel.

I did this. It depends how long you are going for. I took the view that for a two week holiday it wasn't worth trying to adjust his sleep routine and carried on on pretty much UK time! It meant that he was still sleeping at the right time when we got back.

Namechange - we're going for 3 weeks so I think I will have to change his pattern. Hopefully he'll adapt with plenty of exposure to sunshine....

We did NYC at nine months and it took a couple of days each side to adjust - wasn't too horrendous!

Friends of mine took a very little good sleeper to NZ for a couple of weeks over Christmas and had zero problems.

We did Vietnam at 10 weeks, 2 month trip. He was a good sleeper before, during and after.
Always co slept, but would go to bed when we did, and wake around 8am naturally. Napped wherever and whenever in day, in sling usually.

I waited until dd1 was 2 as l couldn't face it. Turns out she gets motion sickness so I'm glad we waited as it can be a big thing for babies. Dd2 will be just under 2 when we take her.

Good luck, I've had lots of friends take their very young dc and be fine though.

Not as far, but we took DS back to UK from US at christmas when he was 5 months. 6 hour time difference. He adjusted to the new time within a few days both ways
