Hi.
I have a 5 month old. She has a dummy to settle her to sleep. The problem is she wake through out the night and wants the dummy back in. Its getting silly now because sometimes when i put it back in she takes it out and plays a game! I am sp tired and it effecting her sleep as it seems to almost wake her up. She doesnt need it to sooth her to sleep in the pram or car. She has also started to suck her thumb but still wants dummy to sooth to sleep. Has anyone had any experience of going cold turkey etc... Please help my happy little girl is so tired and so am I. Thanks x

Could you attach it to a (short, well secured) ribbon and attacg it to her sleeping bag?

Hi thanks for reply. I have a clip and it has quite a short ribbon but says its not adviced to use in a cot. I dont really no how it could strangle her.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Do you think if I just put her down in the cot without a dunmy she will just suck hr thumb? Im nervous she will just be confused and cry coz she is used to the dummy? x

I ditched the dummy at nearly 6 months for the same reason. We went cold turkey and I sat with her for the first couple of times she went to sleep without it. The first time was at her lunchtime nap and she cried fir about 10 mins before going to sleep. That night she cried for about 5 mins then went to sleep. ...... and didn't wake up until 7am. It was amazing and we never looked back. Good luck if you choose to ditch them - a thumb is certainly more convenient at this stage!

Wow thats amazing! I only gave it to her coz she used to take 2 hours after the middle of night feed to get back down but that was when she was about 2 months. I just dont think it actually helps her self sooth at night. She wakes up wide awake and as soon as its reinserted falls straight to sleep hence why im nervous about doing it. Shes in our room and it to easy to just put it back in. Its driving me insane atm though coz im reinserting it every 2 hrs so only havong 2 hrs of sleep at a time. I dont think it can be good for her either x

I don't give my kids dummy because they get used to it and it becomes problem. I have 14 month and 2 weeks now and I will not give it to him. So try and stop that and see how she will behave.

Have you tried putting lots of dummies in the cot and using a breathable cot bumper so they don't fall out? Then she can find one more easily. That helped us.
Then when she's old enough for you to feel comfortable, you could attach them to a snuggly. I use one of the knotty snuggly toys from Jojo maman bebe.
Good luck, sleep deprivation is a b*h!

I did think of that but she doesnt even attempt to find it at the moment. Now that shes found her thumb i dunno if ditching it is best. I dunno. Im just so tired. She has been full of cold this week as well. I feel so emotional

I've been there!
Perhaps if nights are already awful it might be worth going cold turkey on the dummy to see if it helps? Sounds like it can't get much worse and you might feel better if you have a plan of attack to at least try?
Good luck tonight.

Quite often shevwakes up just chatting and mumbling to herself. I then put dummy back in as she wake me up as in our room haha If she crys its generally wet nappy or hunger. So who knows she might mumble her way to sleep when i put her down.

I'd just leave her and wait to see what she does, it'll take longer to quieten down than the dummy initially but she'll get better and faster at self settling. Perhaps it's time to consider moving her to her own room too?

Today hardly had it in the day as sleeps in buggy without it. I sometimes pit it inas she can get upset by having her coat put on but just let her cry and she was fine once in buggy. She was taking dummy in and out when i put her to bed but is gast asleep now. I would love her to go in her own but we are currently waiting to move into a 2 bed place x
