Sleep

4 year old will not go to sleep!

My daughter is 4 and since moving from a cot to a bed she doesn't fall to sleep easily at all.

I have tried EVERYTHING I can possibly think of but she is still up until after 10pm! Talking to herself in bed or wondering out asking for random objects or hugs.

Our usual day we will get up at 7:30am. She attends nursery from 12:30 until 3:30. And I start the bedtime routine at 6:45. She will be tucked up in bed at 7:30.

She is exhausted, she often cries scrubbing her eyes on the way home from school. She is grumpy and so tired, but will not help herself and sleep!!

I don't know what to do anymore, any advice is welcomed.

Does she nap in the nursery? If so, that needs to stop.

If she is talking to herself for hours in her bed, she wasn't sleepy when you put her to bed.

My DC were going to bed at 8:30 PM at that age without having slept at all during the day, and they were up at 7 AM.

I wonder if she is going to sleep too late so is missing her sleep window. DS is just turned 4 and is also in nursery for exactly the same hours. He then goes to a CM as I work. He's home by 5:30 (dinner at the CM's). We then start his 'night routine' immediately by 5:40. 20 minutes of stories, 10-15 minutes for a bath. He's in bed by 6:20. Reads by himself for a bit, and lights out at 6:30. If we miss this window for any reason and he's up till past 8 and struggling to fall asleep.

I also find he needs a much longer wind down routine. So sometimes we have nearly 30 minutes of stories, and a shorter bath. We keep the lights dim and generally don't encourage any rowdiness (I'm looking at you...DH). He also likes having his limbs massaged after the bath and I can see it makes him relaxed and sleepy.
