5 month constantly waking up since started to sleep on tummy

Hi all,
My 5 month little angel was having a nice nights sleep, he even started to sleep through the night until he decided to start sleeping on his tummy, now he wakes up several times, can't soothe himself and move all over the cot, crawling backwards and getting really upset, every night is getting worse and the only way for him to go back to sleep is by holding him, after 2 weeks now we are at the point where he only wants to sleep on somebody otherwise he cries ans first stop moving. Please help! thank you.
