6 week old waking every 2 hours at night

I know she's only young and stomach is still tiny but most of the babies in my NCT group are now sleeping for at least 3 hours and most are going for 5 hours. I'm breastfeeding but we give her a bottle at about midnight to make sure she is as full as possible. She is gaining weight well so don't think there are supply issues. Please share your tips for how to extend the 2 hour feeds. Thanks x

You can't. It's completely normal. At 6 weeks 2 hour stretches is good. My ds1 wasn't doing 2 hour stretches at 12 months! Honestly, don't worry. Just hunker down and get through it!

All babies are different so don't compare yours to the ones at NCT! Your baby sounds perfectly normal.

There aren't any. Tiny babies wake all the time for food. She will stretch out soon

I agree with the others. It's normal. My daughter was tiny and prem and wanted two hourly feeds during the day until she was 8/9 months old, although it did stretch to three hourly at night a bit before.

I've been there OP, all my NCT group seem to have had much better sleepers than my 4 month old. I know it's really tough right now but she will get there in her own time. My 4 month old who was waking every 2 hours at 6 weeks (breastfed) went gradually longer and longer til about 3 1/2 months, able to do up to 5-6 hours at a time but averaging 3-4. Then she went backwards for a couple of weeks for the 4 month sleep regression so I was waking up every 1-2 hours. Last she had her best night ever, asleep 9.30, fed 10.30, slept til 6.30!! back to sleep and just stirring beside me now. No doubt your little one will be different, but hang in there take care of yourself, enjoy her and the sleep will get better xx

It's normal. Try to stop comparing. It passes. Find something more interesting to talk about than baby's sleep with your friends. I talk about it on MN as it bores me to tears (of sleep deprivation) in real life and there is always someone who claims their baby always sleeps through.

It's normal. And 2hourly in particular seems common.

I was there just a few weeks ago - changes very quickly! Sympathy to you though as I know it's so exhausting!

It is totally normal.

I would be very surprised if your whole NCT group are getting 3 hours plus. They are either a very lucky group, or telling white lies under peer pressure.

Just when you think they might be staring to get into a pattern they mix it up anyway just to keep you on your toes. I'm currently on the grand total of zero sleep so far tonight thanks to my 16 week old so you have my sympathy Flowers

6 weeks is a classic growth spurt territory. Try to limit formula if you can because your baby is wanting your breasts to make more milk and this is done by frequent feeding. Of course every baby/mum is different but it can affect some mothers supply.
