Daytime sleeping locations/options for babies

Hello,

I'm expecting my first at the beginning of December and currently having an argument discussion with my dh re where the baby will sleep during the day. We have borrowed a co-sleeper from a friend for the night, but I feel like we need something during the day around the house for the wee one to nap in (so he isn't always napping on me!).

My dh thinks the way to go is a moses basket at it has handles and we can carry from room to room if necessary. I am a little scared that a moses basket is a poor investment (I seem to have read countless 'my baby hates the moses basket' stories). I like the idea of the sleepyhead baby pod thing (and all the reviews are great), but it is super expensive for what seems like a fancy cushion and I'm not sure when baby is asleep on that how 'transportable' they would be.

Where do your babies sleep during the day? Are we overthinking this? Is there a glaringly obvious solution? I'd be grateful for your experience!

My DD is 4months.

We have a crib in our bedroom and a moses basket downstairs (this was only £25 in the sale so I'm not too annoyed that she has just about outgrown it already!).

She usually naps in the moses basket or pram downstairs, as she has got older she will sometimes nap in her crib upstairs. This is mostly to keep her away from DS who is a very enthusiastic big brother and often wakes her up so he can play with her [sigh]

In preparation for her moving into her own room at 6months I will also start putting her down for some naps in her cot soon.

No advice on the sleepyhead I'm afraid.

We never used a Moses basket for either of our boys. At night it was co sleeping for first 3 - 6 weeks then cot. In the day it was sling, somebodies arms/chest, car seat or pram until 12 weeks then cot upstairs for naps or in the car seat/pushchair when out and about.

Since I was always around when he was little I would use my breastfeeding pillow to make a little nest for him next to me on the sofa, he was very comfy in it and slept best of all there because it kept him snugged up. I think you can get them very cheaply online.

I had a little crib for him which we tried in the living room and for at night in the bedroom but he didn't like it (the same for the moses basket at DM's house) - however, I think if I had tried harder to get swaddling right then he would have got on much better with it. I thought the problem was the crib so moved him to his cot early, it didn't help and I realised that I just hadn't been swaddling him tight enough so he would feel secure.

I had a carrycot for my travel system. I bought an additional mattress for it ands both by children slept in there.

We have the Sleepyhead. It's worth every penny and is pretty easy to carry about. If you're only planning to use it for supervised day naps you could look at a Poddle Pod as a cheaper alternative? We had a Moses basket but it really didn't get used.

Could never he DS to settle in sleepyhead during the day but it's great for night time and very transportable if you're away.

I had planned to get DS to sleep in the pram carrycot during the day but in reality he mostly slept on me until 3 months!

Get the sleepyhead. We have it IN the co-sleeper at night and it is amazing, best thing we've bought. DD naps on me during the day still (14 weeks) which I apparently should address but I like the excuse to sit down for an hour or so and enjoy the calm cuddles.

Pram carry cot is the obvious if it's detatchable from pram? Saves buying multiple items that do the same thing and also cluttering up the house.

Had a moses basket for DD and it was great for the 2 months we used it.

DS is now 6 months and he slept on a beanbag or in pram. Now he's a bit older, I put him upstairs in his crib for naps.

All 4 of my dc's have used the carrycot attachment for the buggy for sleeping in wether it be upstairs or downstairs as it has handles for carrying, we have never used a Moses basket as felt it an unnecessary expense. After about 8/10 weeks it was then a reclining bouncer or a beanbag

Moses basket until she didn't fit and by then she had started to get a wee routine so the cot was fine.

We never got a Moses basket. Pram carrycot/on me/in sling/ on rug in living room in the first few months.

My DD is (almost) 4 months.

She sleeps in a Sleepyhead (though tbh right now she's asleep on me and sometimes sleeps in the sling). During the day the Sleepyhead goes on the living room floor, and at night we put it into a bedside crib (Babybay crib that we picked up on eBay).

we don't have a buggy/travel system so no carrycot. We were going to see how we got on with a sling for the time being (and I realise this might be a crazy idea!).

I think we may look at the cheaper poddle pod as good for tummy time as well as you say. I'll look out for sale moses baskets as well just in case I can bag a bargain - as a few of you have pointed out, if its cheap it is less of a concern if it doesn't work out.

Vote from me for the sling... my DS sleeps longer in it than if I put him down. The silence is bliss! You won't be slinging them for naps forever. We'll I hope not - my 13 week old is over 7kg as it is!!!

Hi,
We had a Moses basket downstairs in the lounge but it didn't et used a massive amount, he woke up about 10 mins after I laid him flat every time! In the end, he used to sleep in his little bouncy chair thing, he loved it (though be aware to not solely use that all the time as mine got used to being bounced asleep!) also, I used the sofa and cushions a lot!
