Early waker 2.5 help please!

Hoping it's a phase. DS is waking earlier and earlier and the whole family is suffering - he shares a room with his 5 yo sister and we can't move them.

4.45 this morning! He sleeps well at night from about 7pm. Often wakes with a dream or for a drink but goes back to sleep. He's resisting naps at the moment - had been sleeping up to two hours after lunch but hasn't for a few weeks now. Sometimes snatches a little snooze in the car early afternoon or school pick up.

Any advice gratefully accepted! Thanks.

Put him to bed an hr later?

Thanks. I forgot to add, putting him to bed later definitely doesn't work. He wakes just as early. Same with DD. I'm sure it works for many children - mine must be a bit odd!

DD (2.3) is doing the same, up at 5.30 every day. Bed at 7, nap of about an hour.

She has a gro clock and understands the idea - if we put her back she goes back to sleep and waits for the sun to come up, but we're trying to stop the initial impulse to leap out of bed once she wakes.

We're day two of wake to sleep at about 5, but no impact yet

Have you got a gro clock? I find it mostly works really well, we still go through phases of early waking though sometimes. It gives them something to aim at though and you can set it earlier to begin with, and then sneakily move the wake time later by five minutes each night.

Sometimes I would just refuse to get them up though. Cue half an hour of screaming in bed before they go back to sleep, but sometimes needs must! I refuse to accept 5am as morning smile

Mine have a gro clock. He likes to shout to tell me how many stars are left...

I'm not normally a fan of sticker charts but we did one with the gro clock, had a selection of stickers of characters she liked and she got to choose one in the morning. It worked after a couple of weeks, when she was about that age and nearly a year later she still stays in bed till it comes up (6.15), clock on its own didn't work.

DD has taught him about the gro clock. He gets it, but doesn't care! Stickers don't motivate him really - DD is a little too liberal with handing them out! She's also trying to get him to use a sticker chart for potty training.

I don't always let my 5 year old parent her little brother. We're not in Charlie and Lola's house...

The other thing that worked, bizarrely, for us was a slightly earlier bedtime.

Oh it's getting worse. I'm hardly getting any sleep! He was awake at 4.30 this morning, dosed till 5.00 then they were both wide awake.

I'm sure that's not enough sleep for 5yo DD. DS will nap so I guess he's fine! It's certainly not enough sleep for me.

He had naps at the weekend. 12ish for an hour or so.
