Should I wake up my baby?

Hi,

My 5wo DD is a great sleeper during the day - generally feeds every 2-3 hours and sleeps in between. I maybe get about an hour of her being awake in the morning, and a couple hours early evening (although she's generally quite unsettled during this period).

It's a different story at night however, is up about 4-5 times and takes ages to settle. She's not always upset,, just wide awake and wanting attention. I can only assume she is like this because she sleeps so much during the day - should I try and wake her up more often to limit her daytime naps? Or do you just leave a baby this young to sleep when they want and hope they sort themselves out??

Thanks

I would leave her to sleep but make sure the environment is different day and night eg night time dark and quiet, daytime more light and noise. it is still very early days it will get easier!

I do try do that but the problem is I think she sleeps better with all the background noise! hmm

have you tried a white noise thingy? Ewan the dream sheep is fab.

We have a Ewan and she loves him smile. He works when we put her down sleepy, but not when she's wide awake and/or upset hmm

Snap. I have a 4wo ds and could write your post word for word!

We're day 2 of trying to let him go no longer than 3hrs in the day between feeds (he's Ebf) as he would sometimes go 4- 5hrs between feeds in the day.

So far no difference to his night wakings. Wanted feed/cuddle at 0030, 0130 and again now. sad

The only benefit I've noticed to limiting his daytime naps is that I can predict when/where I feed him and plan my day marginally better(!)

I'm hoping that as he gets bigger this will just sort itself out. A paediatrician friend of mine says that baby's melatonin production doesn't begin/regulate until week 6, so until then, day and night are all over the place.

<waits wistfully for two more weeks to pass so that I can sleep longer than 1.5hrs in a stretch>

There's light at the end the tunnel!

Just up feeding DD for the first time since the back of 12..,it's a miracle!

Just hope she settled quickly a c doesn't wait up till morning!

That's encouraging! smile

Ds got put back at 0330 but rallied again at 0430 for another feed and us still going now <sob>

Hope you get some sleep OP
