I found a copy of the baby whisperer and was flicking it during the night feeds. I found some very good news that DS would be ready to drop the 2am feed by 6 weeks.
Excellent. Now what about the 2.45, 4am, 5.15am, 6am, 6.25am feeds? I think she forgot to mention those ones? Wink
Tell me it gets easier?

Ps those extra feeds are not truly feeds, just small feed and then mainly for comfort and to get back off to sleep (for the whole of another 30mins)

Hahahahahahahahahahah!

The Baby Whisperer is full of shit.

DS1 fed every 1-2 hours around the clock until he was 14 months old

I'm sorry...did I say that out loud?

I've got the Baby Whisperer too - I like the main concept ie., the routine of Eat - Activity - Sleep (never got any 'Y' You time though!) but when it comes to a 3 / 4 hour feeding routine it is just not happening like that!

DD is 9 weeks old and will still feed as and when (EBF). Some days she has generally stuck to a 3 hour routine, but that literally is about 1 day in every 10!! Most of the time she just feeds on me every 1-2 hours then falls asleep on me.
She won't sleep anywhere else and often when she stirs, she is rooting for the nipple again which she uses to get back to sleep (yes I'm a dummy as well as a mummy!).

Apparently it does get easier and with DS1 (now aged 2.2) I did get on to some sort of 3 hour routine eventually (but he never slept longer than a 3 hour block before he was 9 months old!).

It's so tought - good luck!

The go-to BFing website Kellymom cites The Baby Whisperer as a book to avoid as it can undermine the breastfeeding relationship, in no small part due the the idea of 3 to 4 hour feeding routines.

Glad I'm not the only one. We are vaguely operating on EAS (Y) but on a 1-2 hour schedule too.
Although I had 3 hours sleep Ina row last night and have felt amazing today. (Never thought I'd say that!)

It sounds as though your DC is waking fir comfort. A need just as important in young babies as feeding.

I read all the books (well not all) including baby whisperer, with DS1 and I learnt 1 important thing: there was no book that correlellated wkth my child.

Ds1 bf to sleep, woke every hour and a half until he was 1 and only slept 45 mins at a time in the day. I was stressed trying to follow "routines' which undoubtedly didn't help. I gave up in the end and went with the flow and he began settling himself in the day at 8-9mths and at night at 13 months. Then slept through after night milk was taken away at 13 months also (pick up put down tequnique worked for us - see baby whisperer)

I'm currently on DS2 who is 4 weeks and an entirely different beast. Im just getting to know his likes (nappimg on my shoulder before he'll go down in cot - weirdly NOT feeding to sleep!) rather slowly and clumsily, but I won't be picking up a book again, and I will only listen to my instincts this time.

Everything is a phase. Each phase lasts a short time in our lives. Keep calm and embrace each phase. The chances are if you allow your DC to do it their way, they'll be secure enough to slowly stop waking for comfort soon enough.
