Sleep

What are we doing wrong?

I have a 10mo DD who until three weeks ago, was sleeping thru. She would go down about 6 and wake at 5.30. Routine was dinner, bath, bf then to bed and she would be awake when we put her down.
Then 3 weeks ago this stopped. She started waking in the night and not sure why. We would get her to sleep eventually by rocking and singing then as soon as we leave the room she wakes up and starts to wail. She's currently sleeping in her pushchair after wailing for 1 1/2 hours Confused
A couple of nights she's been up and playing at 1.30!!!! Sometimes boob helps but I'm cautious of starting night feeding again as it took ages to stop!
We are exhausted and would love any insight or advice

Don't think you are doing anything wrong, this sounds like a classic sleep regression. Have a look here. The wonder weeks book and website have some useful information too. You can sign up for there emails that will let you know when a developmental leap is due Smile

Thank you. It does sound like that but I don't like the idea of this going on for months! I feel absolutely defeated by it and last night I was so close to just leaving Hmm
Someone suggested gina ford but not sure if that works? Or is good for them? I remember a sleep programme that advocated sitting in the dark with them but not sure how that worked or what it was called?
Any help is appreciated. I feel so desperate

Some people swear by GF but I think its important to remember that her advice is not evidence based, its just one woman's opinion. One childless woman, though again her devotees are adamant that this makes no difference.

Her routines are also very prescriptive, so if your baby doesn't comply its easy to feel that you are failing. Not saying that you shouldn't use GF or that some people haven't found her methods successful, its just that I'm not one of them Smile

Can see why going to the park would help. Not heard of a plan but there is a link between daylight and sleep. Lots of parents try to get them outside at least twice a day. While you as still off get her up and dressed, make yourself a Brew and get her outside. This will help to reset her body clock. Then after tea, take her outside again before you start the bedtime routine,

Thanks Julie but meant sitting in the dark, not park! Although that does seem like a good idea! Thanks for info about GF that was what I had been thinking too

Thought I hadn't heard of sitting in the dark, although a nice walk at nap time and then sitting in the park with a book while they nap does sound good...Smile

Whoops, I've done the opposite typo now.
