Sleep

Argh, 5.30-6am poo & early morning wakings!

My son is nearly 7 months old, he's always been a goodish night time sleeper usually going 7pm-7.30am from 8 weeks old with a 10pm dream feed.

For the last month he has woken up between 5.30am and 6.15am with a poo in his nappy. After a nappy change he usually goes back to sleep but I can't. I know most people would love to be in my position & I'm being a bit of a brat, but a 5.30am start is killing me as I often work at home in the evenings until 10pm.

I've done a search on here and tried all the usual suspects, no protein/fruit/veg at dinner, an earlier (4pm) dinner to give him a chance to poo before bed, carbs with every meal, bath and massage before bed, totally blacked out room.

Is there anything else I can try?

He does 2/3 dirty nappies a day. 1 @ 5.30-6am, 1 @ 8am and 1 after his afternoon nap @ 2.30pm ish.

He eats 3 meals a day. B:porridge & banana. L: protein, carb & yog & finger fruit & veg. D: carbs like pasta and sauce & organixs finger food.

He used to be breastfed but is now mainly bottle fed 1st stage aptimail 3 times a day.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

I posted about this yesterday. My 11mo wakes between 5am and 6.30am for a pooh and doesn't go back to sleep though is evidently still tired. I have not got the solution sadly, just the same problem.

What have you tried so far sharond101? I think I'm going to try wake to sleep tonight and rouse him at 3am. Apparently this might work?! The other thing I was thinking is maybe giving him a dream feed but I really don't think he is waking due to hunger as he natters happily in his cot.

It's very confusing!

Hey Sharond101, my son slept until 7.30am this morning and hadn't done a poo! For his dinner I only gave him fruit and no carbs or protein and it seems to have worked. Tonight I'm going to give him carbs and see what happens. But maybe it's just too many carbs before bed making him do a dirty nappy!

We have exactly the same issue! Although to be fair, he wakes up at 5am anyway. I keep trying to go to bed earlier but it's very hard to go to sleep at 8pm (and needless to say I have no life).

Let me know. I always worry he'll be hungry in the night without a substantial feeding at dinner time. Does yours feed in the night at all?

I am the same zombiebanana worrying he would get hungry in the nighttime. My DS won't eat fruit unless it is pureed in weetabix, porridge or custard. Did you wake him at 3am or just change his dinner?

shouldbecrossaboutthis how was your alarm clock this morning? Where did you read about giving only fruit at dinner? 6.07am for us today.

Right, I think my experiment is a success so far!

I'm not sure if its a dinner issues or a day time sleep issue, this is what we have done;

Sunday: 6 hours day time sleep. DN @ 8&9am
B: porridge l:spag Bol, nana & yog D: fruit purée
Woke at: 7.30am

Monday: 4 hours day time sleep. DN @ 7.40 & 12.30
B: porridge L:pasta & yog & fruit D: chilli, rice & banana
Woke at: 7.30 am

Tuesday: 3 hours day time sleep. DN @ 7.40 & 5pm
B: porridge L: pasta & fruit & yog D: chicken & rice & banana
Woke at: 6.30 (but no poo)

He has 8oz milk when he wakes @2.30 & @6.30.
He doesn't have milk in the night he sleeps straight through. He goes to bed at 7ish. I didn't try the waking him at 3am trick as I think I can fix it by increasing naps?

Today I'm going to do protein lunch & carb dinner with 4 hours sleep & see what happens!
