Tips and advice for siblings sharing a bedroom. Will they sleep better?

Hi have decided to try putting DS age 5 and a half and DD aged nearly 4 in the same room to sleep for a while. Have put DDs bed into DSs room as his is biggest.
Te hope is that they will be comforted by each others presence and so sleep for longer. Also DD is in the habbit of coming in to my bed at around 2am and I'm hoping she'll stop this if she's in with DS.

Only worry is that when one is not tired enough to sleep at bedtime, I usually let them sit with me downstairs for a bit. The other child isn't aware that their bro or sis is staying up later so they are happy to fall asleep.

DD has just fallen asleep at the worst time!!! She'll never go to bed as normal tonight.

How has it worked for you if DCs share a room?

I have 4yo twins who share a room. They still come into me all the time! Doesn't seem to help the comfort factor unless they sleep with each other). At my parents' they share a double bed and generally stay asleep. If one of them is tired, they usually fall asleep quickly and then I will allow the other downstairs, but this would never work if they knew the other one was doing it. I usually ask them to stay in bed quietly for 20 mins and if they are still awake after that then they are allowed down.

I have to say it has made things like putting back to bed when they come into my bed very difficult (hence now it is a bad habit). Anything that would involve crying can't happen in the middle of the night. My older ds who is 7 is fine and sleeps on his own in his room all night.

Hmm this may be a short lived experiment then! smile

You never know, it may go brilliantly! Other problem is they do tend to wake each other up as well, so whoever wakes up earliest wakes the other one up!!

I've put DD (21months) into DS's (5.4yrs) room and it's gone really well. It's not stopped dd getting up but it has stopped ds from coming through to me when he wakes. Ds sleeps very deeply though so doesnt wake up if dd cries.
