6mo waking but not hungry?

My 6mo (next week!) has alwas been a quite good sleeper. He is EBF and for a few months would go down at 7 and wake around 3 for a feed and then wake for the day between 6 and 7. I know how lucky i am that he did this being BF!

Anyway recently he started waking earlier at around 1 and then again at 5 both times feeding. But then didn't want his feed 1st thing. This was fine, DH gets up with him, so I just stayed in bed until around 7.30.

But last night it all changed again! He woke at 2 had a feed and then woke at 5 as usual but wasn't hungry, he eventualy had a small feed and went back down around 6. I'm more than happy to feed him in the night when he's hungry, but would rather he kept sleeping if he isn't!

Has this happened to anyone - any ideas as to what we can do. I return to work in a month and would dearly love just one wake up! (again I know I'm lucky, DS has never comfort fed he only BFs when hungry) Also we have started solids as he is a bottle refuser. He has taken to them really well, thankfully, as he needs to have someting at cm's!!

Thanks

Not sure if I can be any help but my 5month old DS tends to wake around 4am. He's been on solids for a few weeks so I know he isn't hungry. He isn't upset when he wakes, more talking to himself. I tend to leave him be and not go over to him and he falls asleep again. Would yours get upset if you tried just leaving him to see if he settled again? Sorry I'm not much help!

hello
afraid I am not sure what might help you, but just wanted to add my commiserations - i have a six month old too, and she is a rubbish sleeper! hope someone with some actual knowledge comes along soon, I've posted my complaints about non-sleeping babies separately.

I know people have told me there's a growth spurt about now, and definitely my girl is going through loads of developmental stuff ('wow, stuff can be hit off of other stuff?' 'look, I can move!').

Fingers crossed we both get some better sleep soon!

teething I think.

DS will be 6 months in a week or so and last night I don't think I had a full hour between feeds. Having the boob in his mouth seems to relieve it. He doesn't feed properly as he isn't hungry so my nipples are shredded by morning and I am sleepless.

Hmm my ds who is coming up to 6 months wakes up everyday at 4.30am, has a bottle at 5 (not interested before then, too busy shouting what sounds like "hiya" and randomly chatting) and then goes to sleep from 6-7 ....!!!!! Every single bloody day. Nothing I do makes a jot of difference so I crawl out of bed and get up with him.

My dd aged 9 years was exactly the same unfortunately... groan.

Thanks everyone. I have also been asking for advice on the bf thread about retiring to work as DS is a bottle refuser. It seems when I return in Jan he will prob up the night feeds anyway. So I guess I'll just roll with it for now and see what happens then. Grin
