How to get my baby through the night

Hello mums,
This is my first time on mums net and I have question about night time feeds.
My baby is 10 weeks old now and has gone through the night on occassion but not every night.
I am following a 4 hourly feeding plan with formula and I put him to bed after bath and bottle at 7pm when he sleeps and I wake him tou feed at 11pm for a dream feed. He then tends to wake up 5am for another feed or sometimes goes through until 7am.
My question is should I drop the 11pm dream feed or how do I go about getting my baby to go from 7pm to 7am?
I am really excited about hearing your replies and ideas
Regards
Claire

He's still very little. He should be fed when he wakes really, and going from 11 pm to 5/7 am is pretty good going. You could try not waking him to feed at 11 pm but then he may wake earlier than 5.

IMO you can't "make" little babies go through the night, they sleep longer when they're developmentally and physiologically ready to do so. Witholding feeds can lead to a miserable, hungry, non-sleeping, poorly-growing baby.

Hi Hon,
It's too soon to drop the dream feed at 10 weeks, you could move it to 10.30pm just to make it easier for yourself - but I'm afraid you'll need to wait til your baby is on solids (6 mths) before they will sleep through on a regular basis. You are lucky he dosen't wake more often than that. A 10 week old baby's tummy is only small and needs regular fuel, plus with the only norishment being milk his needs must be met with a ready supply. Tizzie Hall's Save Our Sleep is an excellent book that can help you get him sleeping through the night and having regular naps during the day - she is 'softer' than Gina Ford. Good luck and do chat with your health vistor for extra support and tips xx

Sorry, just to add that even if your baby doesn't sleep through after weaning, there is nothing wrong with them. Solids are not the answer to everything, night waking is about more than hunger.
