20 month old resisting going to sleep

hello!
My daughter is 20 months old and has coslept her whole life. She has always got to sleep by breastfeeding and this has been fine for me and I think for her. Now suddenly she is refusing to lie down, and just wants to get up off the bed whenever I try to put her to sleep. It is as if she is actively resisting going to sleep, even when she is yawning and tired.
I have tried putting in a very very clear night time routine, but the trouble is, once we have gone through the whole routine, she lies down, has milk, and then wants to get up and play! She doesn't seem to want or expect sleep at the end of it!
Because of this, recently she seems to sleep at a different time every night, despite my desperate efforts to create a routine.
I am very keen for advice from experienced mums on:

  • how to stop her resisting going to sleep (night time and naps)
  • how to make her sleep earlier
  • how to make her understand that the end of the routine is SLEEP!

Thank you for your help!
